  1. @0.8 degrees c we had this on the 10th Dec 2017 - 15cm https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=IWELWYN8#history/s20171208/e20180225/mcustom ...so check the above link to see it doesn't have to be Alaska to get snow
  2. I just had a big case of 'user error'.. Opened up the mad thread from way back when it started and read 'winters over' and thought oh no they're at it again! Refreshed my browser and got here to find the same... blimey, it's like a record got stuck. Same ol' same old every year a groundhog day! The cold is here, and it's getting colder and every model is only just catching up with a reversal of the norm. Standing outside should help also... It's exciting to see what'll happen when the really cold air passes over the north sea/channel... beyond that is anyone's guess but more than likely breathtaking and potentially fun - !!! ... on a serious note : look out for neighbours and stay safe - don't drive with bald tires or in first gear up a hill - leave the rear wheel drive BMW at home and go and make a snowman somewhere pretty - Rant over
  3. http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gfse_3d.php?icon=1&mode=2&lat=50&lon=0&ech=120&zoom=6 this^ combined with convection over many miles of relatively (in comparison to upper temps)warm sea in the channel/north sea should make some snow for plenty of folk oh it's too much excitement, sleep beckons to wake on Tuesday..
  4. oh the Weatherpro app - lolo Gxd help us Time to just go outside and look up in the sky for better!
  5. yes the BBC opted for an app used by the majority of our european friends but for our ickle island on the edge of the East Atlantic we need more detail and dedication. Looks like we'll be looking east for the time being but I don't fancy our chances of good forecasts from meteogroup. Rather our Met Office as a stable, trusted and respected establishment. God knows how politics ever got involved... unless it was that person with a loud voice and an aarvarck +1 turbo with go faster stripes that sold it to the beeb! Looking forward to real up to date forecasts... is it going to snow in Hertfordshire on Tuesday? Maybe it'll beat the 15cm we got in December - (-:
  6. Meteo Group marketed mobile users and websites for tourist forecast a while back... (some person driving an aardvark+1 turbo was very convincing to someone high up ) so everytime you looked at what the weather was going to be like there was always a sparkling sun and higher than usual temps but when one got to the holiday destination you've saved a year to get to it drizzled and was cold . The MetOffice take their holidays elsewhere (-:
  7. Got be near Golders Green, just down from Finchley road. They charge for ice there
  8. I've got lots of lego if anyone needs it... but I'm keeping the salt I've stashed <snowmageddon apocalypse lucky bloke> emoticon
  9. 'ask you soon snow it is very' said a Yoda BBC weather representative "ummm blizzard maybe" (-:
  10. This is a good read: https://www.netweather.tv/weather-forecasts/news/8752-the-beast-from-the-east-cometh ..watch out for those snow showers that develop as the cold passes over the english channel/north sea next week.. get the cold in and watch the convection Also check Met office website: https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/ + their facebook/twitter pages... so much better than the BBC since they went with seaweed inspired meteogrupels !
  11. what did you put in a bucket that took two hours to clean up - I'm intrigued
  12. This is a good find ^ thank you Matt yes.. we are going to get some serious cold... but will there be moisture picked up to fall as snow IMBY? - It looks likely but how any model can forecast that precisely at this range 5-7 days out is anyone's 'guess' and that includes the 'models' as they are bound by their data input based on previous scenarios. The SSW warming, the resultant reverse of weather flow from West to East to East to West is interesting but when one takes into account the extreme amount of cold modelled combined with the amount of relatively warm water it has to pass over before it hits the eastern side of our little island (UK) the outcome is pretty much only predictable t-48 or less. Prob why 'some' are saying it's only going to cold and dry.. Enjoy... esp as any warm fronts try to move in from the south to wrestle with the beast from the east. Salt for the driveway, good tread on tires and logs for the wood burner bought + camera at the ready.. oh and some mulled wine ingredients too Please don't forget to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours attached last snow here on 10th Dec 2017 was very pretty:
  13. I nearly fell off my chair when i saw this in the Strat model
  14. It's like when you go on holiday... i You've done all the research - climate weather anomalies, sea temps, model deconstruction, weight of baggage etc and then... Better to have arrived expecting the worst than what you get. - it's all up for grabs This current scenario of Stratospheric warming so late in the year (winterfell) will honour a few after dinner weather moments for a while - We hoped it was going to snow, then we got a heat wave - who'd da thought it eh? mods this was model related
  15. Great checklist post and summary for 'mere mortals' like myself on this forum Mr Catacol - All things in place for an interesting flight Thank you time to sit back and enjoy the ride (-:
  16. There's something in the water with regard to models reaction to the SSW event... they're clearly not geared up to deal with this particular data scenario and tbh neither are any of us mere mortals. Certainly going to be interesting and potentially full of surprizes over the next week as they (the model data crunchers) adjust.. The pro's with the data hidden from us are better placed; ukmo et al' as opposed the flip flop GFS and Brazilian model interpretation
  17. It's a good time to buy shares in Salt.. For the chips that are going to be stockpiled
  18. Like the fact you reminded us of the predictions made, always enjoy that in the forum I reckon a dry and cold spell is on the way... but after 4-5 days is anyone's guess. Just from a casual observers point of view it seems this Strat Warming thing is a tad confusing for the models let alone those in the moody thread. The computer models are statistically geared up for an West to East / Atlantic driven algorithm for our shores and now along comes a spanner in the form of a SSW event to change the norm. Usual synopsis does not to apply and it's all up for grabs with what may or not happen. If the SSW affects our itsy island or near continent it depends on so many variables. But whatever happens it's not going to be very predictable if everything's coming our way from the east. Could be just cold and dry or we could end up in the middle of the weather's struggle to regain that warmth from the atlantic against the cold from the east..... always fun.. will it wont it - INBY I like surprises this time of year and always interesting experience winter holding out as the sun warms our northern hem but i feel this time it's a little more intriguing as the computer models try to deal with unusual data so after last weeks fun cooking pizza outside in the rain at a party i could be doing the same in snow in March ! Hope so.
  19. With regards to the SSW event we are led to believe is going to happen... IF/when it does the physics are way out there in chaos theory and although it's an exciting event for us 'coldies' there's little evidence that it will directly affect our itsy ikle island on the upper (ish) near (ish) top right edge of the Atlantic on our planet. If it's colder above us..what happens? If it's warmer above us in the strat what happens? fxck knows! but something will - but not necessarily cold! I wish it were simpler. Surprises that might happen in two or three weeks time is like Christmas I'm holding my hopes and waiting to take the blue pill or red pill? or just enjoy what happens ps it's dark outside right now, light breeze but warmer than yesterday at this time and the buses have stopped running, must be time for bed
  20. Met office app is understandable The BBC TV and Web new fangled thing is not.. and i bet the BBC presenters on TV hate it too... bad green-screen, shxxty graphics, suspect modelled clouds/rainfall et al... Pitty )-:
  21. Good luck everyone, i can't stay awake anymore... http://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/radar2.php?region=uk&mode=1 Hope you get something snowy to wake up to.... Maybe later in the week for my location.. i like surprises like the one we had on 10th December 2017
