  1. Oh dear I’ve broken my weatherstation - please help! Whilst looking on tinternet for forums on how to change the display on my new toy (Maplin N23DQ) aka WS1001-wifi-clone, I came across this site; https://ambientweather.wikispaces.com/ws1001-wifi and this one: http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=28709.0 (hello Mapantz!) and this one: http://fineoffset.com/hp1000.htm In my enthusiasm (ignorance and probable stupidity) I rushed to take the bait to uploaded the latest firmware to my shiny (working correctly) weatherstation - seemed like a good idea at the time. well.. now it’s not receiving any data from outside unit as well as the inside one.. so I had a look at the “ini’ files within the firmware update to see that my control unit (display) was now programmed to listen for 915mhz.. (Canada/America?) so I edited that - below [Option] WH26=false Transmitter=WH24 Frequency=915M Units=Metric Langue=English TimeZone=15 LuxToWM2=1267 UVISlope=100 Backlight=false Brightness=false StationID= Password= to this: to Frequency=433M after re loading edited firmware...still not working + full factory reset but the real problem is I can’t find the 2.2.7 Firmware I had before - It’s missing from tinternet Please can someone show me a firmware update for this weatherstation that can say hello to 433mhz?
  2. Weather station arrived on Sunday 21st Feb 2016 after 20 days wait.. but I got it cheap! It's £199+ on the Maplin website but you can get it on Maplin_Webdeals @ Amazon Marketplace £159.99 delivered (on a Sunday!) using a search for SolarWifi WStation or N23DQ - good luck. Please don't ask for direct link cos i haven't got one - google is your friend or for 40 quid nip down to Maplins it's worth it (-: Here's it's live output so far: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=IWELWYN8 (the wind direction and gusts are not to be trusted as i haven't put it up high enough yet) From unpacking to setting up on wunderground took half and hour ( i registered the station as a 1001 - hope that's right?) - The manual is in pigeon English but hey they made good and it works Important stuff from the 'about' menu on the fab colour display: N23DQ storage 3705MB HARDWARE REVISION 2 OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION 5.0.4 FIRMWARE REVISION NUMBER 2.2.7 FREQUENCY 433 MHZ @Mapantz, Do I need to do a firmware update? i'd love to know how to personalise the display like yours and more (maybe PM me and post here too to share) as there seems to be so much one can do on this w-station.. I'm loving it.. so simple to set up and easy to read + i can send my weather to anyone !
  3. Keep on trucking my friend.. You'll have more laughs going to where you know the snow is than searching for it on here - but yes it is exhausting reading hopeful posts in this thread over every winter - been there, wish I had a printed T-Shirt. Can't think of a caption... maybe there's a new thread for that. sorry mods can't help my empathy... Maybe there's a brief southerly wisp to the jet stream to encourage moist warmth to come up against the cold in this classic feb set up? but more importantly which side (above or below) of the M4 is it going to be?
  4. @Mapantz yes I had wandered about the direct to webserver bit.. but at least you now have a wireless repeater I haven't received the weather station yet, it's on back order. Maplins web store at Amazon is expecting 300 of them next week. I don't mind waiting as they are £40 cheaper there than in the shops (-:
  5. I just ordered the Maplin version of this weather station from their web-outlet store - If there's anything wrong with it I can take it to my local store for exchange... which sells it for more ! http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-professional-solar-powered-wi-fi-weather-station-n23dq
  6. ^Mapantz^ Great to hear you are getting on well with the Weather Ranger, thanks for all the info. I have also checked out your site - very good. The Meteotemplate looks like a lot of fun. Very intrigued to know how you've changed the graphics display.. I guess I'd need to be running windows to do that. Just found the W8681 pro (another rebranded W-1001) here in the UK for £190 so will go for that. Many thanks P
  7. ^ Thanks Trebor ^ The maplin website has plenty of useful Q and A for this (-: I'll pop along to their shop and have a good look at the spec as I've now read there are quite a few variations of this weatherstation, transmit freq and memory etc. Most seem to be made by FineOffset Electronics and labelled for retailers but as you say buying from Maplin means more peace of mind as opposed to other places Cheers P
  8. Thanks for the feedback 4wd. Yes the next step up, Vantage view etc are appealing but out of my price range right now and I'm not sure if they would work with AppleMacs. It was this ability and the WIFI that I found appealing about the Aercus weatherranger yet I haven't been able to find any reviews of it yet... maybe there's a clone of it somewhere on the interweb edit: seems there are similar models: WATSON W-8681-PROII http://weather-station-reviews.co.uk/weatherstations/review/watson-W8681-pro-professional-wifi-weather-station/
  9. I’ve been given some money (£300) for a significant Birthday beginning with 5 and want to spend it on a replacement weather station. Have used a WS2350 for about 5 yrs but it seems to be getting less and less accurate eg giving strange min/max readings. Has anyone had any experience of this one: Aercus Instruments WeatherRanger http://www.greenfrogscientific.co.uk/aercus-instruments-weatherranger/ (probably a clone of something else ??) It has Wifi connection and most importantly would work with my Apple iMac (no windows machine at home) plus I believe I wouldn’t need to have the computer on all the time. I like the spec/reputation of the Davis machines but they are too pricey and not sure about the Oregons. Any help/experience/comment would be appreciated
  10. Just woken up from a very warm hibernation and pondered or rather wandered toward the model discussion... cool... the weather seems to be the topic of the day this time of year, which I have to say is er predictably going to get colder - but is it going to snow or not? Having no idea myself I decided to enter all the words copied and pasted from the model discussion into a web based wordle type program to find out : looks like winter will happen again this year.. around... winter time.. end of Jan, early Feb for us southerners according to the folk over at model discussion (-: PS here's the link to make words make visual sense (without Java script) http://worditout.com/
  11. great find, like this sort of representation visually.. bookmarked - Public thanks to all those who posted links (-:
  12. Just logged in after a break - Wow what a difference - Refreshing after all these years - gradually getting used to navigating the new design. Tried a search to choose a different skin (forum layout) then read you're working on them. I look forward to those as everything seems a little too spaced out (lots of blank space) on my screen compared to other websites like BBC for example. this is especially noticeable with one liner posts (-: Perhaps if the members location/post numbers font size were a smaller then the blank space in the post field would shrink down a bit?
  13. Probably on Sat 28th Nov 2015 - somewhere (-:
  14. Sat24 are a little enthusiastic this eve: http://www.sat24.com/en/eu?ir=true wierd.tiff
  15. Hard work to put that together - Great job.. like the lightning map at the end, nice touch. Looking forward to the next instalment (-; Was the first piece of music by Joby Talbot by any chance? edit; oops seem to have messed up your quote Supercell - apologies
  16. someone's having quite a big bonfire in France (-: http://www.sat24.com/zoomloop.aspx?ir=false&region=eu&lat=49&lon=-2 The line of fire (thunderstorms) for us seems to be NE ish from where it is now http://www.sat24.com/en/eu quite unexpected - nice
  17. Managed to get a shot of it through cloud this morning - not as great a view of the event as some but quite atmospheric as the light dimmed in the garden from 9.15am big file:
  18. Pot-luck-last-chance-saloon for snow today/tomorrow then warmth at the weekend - could be 1st 2015 BarBQ time
  19. From a keen gardener's point of view this winter was better than the last. We had a few good frosts and not as much rainfall - shame not enough snow to make a snow sculpture in the garden tho (-:
  20. Ok so here we are all us amateurs looking at the models and deciding what may or may not come next… all while the models are fed with data from ‘x’ number of scenarios (outcomes) over many years… plus some of the other (dare I say) controversial variables available. This time of year is one of the most exciting as a weather enthusiast, our atlantic driven friend nods off a while, gets distracted up and down and patterns swing wildly in the battle of balance to regain the ‘norm’. Could it be even slightly plausible that the models are about as confused as us as to what happens next as they enter a phase where a particular scenario doesn’t ‘fit in’ with previous predicted output? T6 to 24 is radar time, T 96+ is interesting but T180.. may be la la land
  21. A small blob on the radar just went over our house and landed on the car
  22. Congratulations (-: i'm sure there'll be more before the years out Has the sea come in at Rye yet ? - waited ages for it - lovely place - looks nice in the snow too
  23. Nice charts Kent Blizzard - looking forward to a few surprises I think i might have to ask Santa for a new weather station tho... it says +0.5c dew point and Temp of +1.5c And it's been snowing here (quite heavy at times past half hour) despite most of the laying snow melted away... I had thought the Dew point would have to be below zero for snow fall edit, snow stopped and sun out again
  24. Same here - very pretty (-: Raintoday radar says rain tho, maybe it's our height above sea level Thursday looks to be interesting according to the Euro4: as for today.. those showers drifting in from the sea could/might liven up? .. wishful thinking me thinks
  25. Keep up the great posts Tamara - I don't understand everything you say but they help in my own quest to learn and i enjoy that - Thank you for your interpretation on the trends and influences. Forecasting what is going to happen next on any scale is indeed a challenge (-: I like weather surprises... even if it doesn't snow
