Congratulations, Things are looking up around here but the damage from the floods is going to take months to repair, we then of course have the problem with animal feed next winter... As for the fog. I drive across the levels every day and I know the road I travel like the back of my hand, but even in good conditions it can be treacherous what with mud on the roads from neighbouring farms, z bends etc so I was astounded when driving back through the fog how many idiots I encountered, I even had someone hammering on their horn because I obviously wasn't going fast enough for them, and then they overtook me, yet I could barely see one white line on the road ahead so i doubt that they could see better, yet this idiot decided that driving at speed was a clever thing to do, taking into account that either side of the road are 6' deep trenches and no safety barriers this eejit was incredibly lucky.

What a beautiful day yesterday was. I'm raising my cuppa to many more like that, so I am hoping you're right GLTW. If not, well I'm off to Crete 4 weeks tomorrow as I need some sunshine and warmth on my old bones. (Not that I am counting ) Things are a lot happier around here, the flood water is falling and people are able to use a lot of the roads again, which is great news as a 10 minute drive turns into 45 minutes plus due to diversions. On the flip side; people are returning to their homes and having to deal with the fall out of the last 2 months. It's going to be a long, costly and emotional process dealing with the clean up.

Lots of excited talk on the playground about snow this afternoon. Any chance? Sorry for the 'is it going to snow IMBY' post but I've not managed to see a forecast or properly geek out either as been busy helping to look after a 3 week old baby, a knackered daughter, a sick mum and teach a class full of primary school kids, with added observations, meetings and PTA thrown in. Just call me superwoman! Lol We just had very heavy sleet which turned into hail. I work on the levels by the way, so more wet stuff is the last thing that we need.

There are so many rumours flying about at the moment in my part of the world. What I don't understand is how they are going to redirect all of this water without flooding other areas? The biggest rumour is that someone has messed with the sluice gates at one of the stations and has lost the handle so the gate cannot be opened, hence a lot of the flooding. If this is true then it beggars belief. People have lost their homes, farmers their livelihoods, farm animals are being rescued, there are food banks set up. It's surreal. EA, the army, police, fire... are all working around the clock trying to rescue people and sandbag/protect property, what is especially heartening is the way that the communities are clubbing together and helping each other, volunteers are spending hours digging trenches and filling sandbags, local businesses are sending in vehicles, tea, coffee, food. I had to laugh when I read that the rescue teams had run out of water to make tea with. I've always had a black sense of humour. What I have personally found upsetting is that the graveyard my step-dad is buried in has flooded. I don't know why this has upset me, it's not like he'll care is it.

The Parrett isn't doing to well at well, loads of flooding going on, even in the town. Congratulations Karlos, I am glad it all went well My daughter had a nightmare, pre eclampsia, 25 hours of labour, rushed to theatre and now a baby with meningitis, every day has been a new drama and nanny here has barely slept from Saturday until last night. I have spent so much time on that stretch of motorway in lines of traffic after accidents or barely hitting 40mph due to winds, and rain that I cannot see through to drive in, pointless going the road way as there are too many floods to encounter. Bad times. But hopefully things will be calm now. Neither of them will be home before next Wednesday so we still have a long old road to travel and I still have a lot of motorway driving ahead. Is there any respite coming up for us?

This is an absolute nightmare for all. This rain must stop soon surely? I had an absolute meltdown on the motorway this morning, 2 hours to make a journey which usually takes 20 minutes, made especially worse as my daughter's newborn (my grandson) has come down with a massive infection and had been rushed into the special care baby unit. No one thinks about weather in real terms until it really affects them. If anyone had seen me on the motorway this morning they would think that I am an absolute nutter! He's getting better by the way.

Stupid people choosing to live on flood plains in houses/farms that have been in their families for generations! Pop down to Muchelny and tell them they've brought it on themselves... The rivers need dredging, they could hold 35% plus water but the various agencies have stopped this happening. Farmers were doing it but then then the environmental agency became involved and said that they were harming wildlife so they would take over...then the gov't cut back spending, but still stopped the farmers doing it. I'm not saying for one second this would have stopped all of the flooding, no one can fight with the weather gods, but it would have caused less destruction and heartache that's for sure.
