  1. Bring on spring! If all we're going to get is cold rain, then sod it. Its been a good winter, but lets call it quits. Im looking forward to hot weather now
  2. yup we have seen a few half decent snow falls, with the heaviest giving no more than about 3 inches in early Jan. Better than a normal winter, but nowhere near as good as feb 09. Only thing better this year is that the cold and snow lasted longer, while other areas have had far heavier snowfalls. Kent last week, Ipswich in December and places like Basingstoke getting hammered twice. Scotland and northern England are always going to be snowier than us but it's frustrating when other southern areas are getting so much more.
  3. That warning is clearly for areas to the NW of London. Wales, the Midlands and northern England look like getting hit again.
  4. In canary wharf and heading home to NE London all I can see is rain. No snow to speak of
  5. Bren on TWO posted a very informative analysis of what may happen on Tues/Weds: http://theweatheroutlook.com/twocommunity/forums/p/31684/904554.aspx#904554

  7. For me, once march comes I'd like to see it start getting warmer. Snow in march usually doesn't settle for long at all. If we don't see snow in the next couple of weeks then roll on spring and summer in my opinion. It has been a better winter than many of us could have hoped for.
  8. thats what i thought. seems as though some of the showers are starting to move in more of a westerly direction towards essex.
  9. A beasterly forming? Th north atlantic and siberian highs look to be joining.
  10. Just to let u guys know...we had a heavy snow shower in Canary Wharf, London this afternoon. If it can snow here in the centre of London when it isn't even that cold then surely there is good potential for late next week for some decent snow.
  11. This was posted by a member on TWO: I emailed Met Office before lunch and got this very rapid response. Credit to them - the email reply came back in just over 1 hour. This should put this one to bed. Well done Tara (Weather Desk Advisor) "The 6 to 15 day forecast issued at around 1130 each day, and is based on the 00Z model runs and ensembles. It is produced by one person, but they do consult our Chief Forecaster and Medium Range Forecaster before they are issued, so there is some team work involved. I am not sure where people have got the idea that we use the 12Z runs, as they are out of date by that time. It may be that many of the internet forums only look at GFS, as that goes out to 14 days, and they may see that we are slow to follow to that model, but we look at much more information and need to take a balanced view."
  12. It seems to have stalled to the SW of London. Not had any precipitation here yet today.
  13. The current model output doesnt show a sustained cold spell developing yet, as they did a couple of weeks ago. Pressure is way too low over Greenland and to our north judging by the latest model outputs, meaning any high pressure moving west towards us has a good chance of sinking. This can, and hopefully will, change though. Today is a classic example of the disgusting winter weather we get when its just too warm for snow. Cold, dank, damp, dreary, slushy and wet. -5c with snow is perfect.
  14. With such deep areas of low pressure to our NW and North, any easterly is going to struggle to stay around. We need higher pressure over Greenland and to our NW, or that High, if it does drift west, will quickly sink into mainland Europe.
  15. It hasnt even started snowing in our area yet and some of you are already calling it another disappointing evening. Places further west, that are milder, have been getting snow. If you were expecting a dumping out of this then you have been mislead or have not followed the models/forecasts properly. The most we were ever going to get was a few cm's, and if we do get that i'll be very happy. At the end of the day there has been at least some snow on the ground for a week now. How often can you say that in London of all places?
  16. Look guys, we were never going to get more than a few cm's out of this. It was always going to weaken rapidly as it heads east. I'll be happy if we get 2-3cm's. A couple of days ago this system wasnt even forecast to push much further than the W Midlands. At least we're getting something.
  17. Why are you saying rain? We are cold enough for snow. Its been snowing in SW England. It will snow here.
  18. Latest Beeb forecast looking quite promising for here. Not as heavy as the SW and Wales has seen, but snow arriving to the SW of London at about 1ish and continuing through the night. COuld be a tricky rush hour tomorrow. From the graphics it looks like we could see 2-5cm's at the most, although they could be underplaying it. Snow seems to move north and east very slowly through Wednesday so light snow could linger for much of the day. Temps getting up to 6c in Plymouth tomorrow, so a rapid thaw for the SW but not getting above 1c in the SE all day according to the Beeb. So snow will stick around for a while. Good stuff!
  19. Good, good. Be nice if this lasted till the morning.
  20. Flakes really small now. I think this streamer is starting to fizzle out now. EDIT: Maybe not, suddenly bigger flakes again. Ive never seen anything like this on the radar. Its appearing out of nowhere!
  21. Hmmm, that seems a bit high. Once the snow stops it will melt fast at 3.1c. Unless the skies clear.
  22. I doubt we'll be snowed in lol. Im sure schools will be open tomorrow. Or am I? If it gets heavier you never know what might happen. Judging by the latest radar the stream seems to be shifting slightly further north. Not sure how long this will last for areas of London north of the Thames.
  23. Everything slowly turning whiter outside. Still very fine snow, but the flakes getting slightly bigger. This is completely unexpected. If it continues, could get a couple of cm's by the morning.
