  1. Phil Avery on BBC just showed a chart for sunday and it had snow widespread over southern England and east Wales, with the heaviest in the SE. Game on?
  2. It depends on the wind direction. A straight NE'erly will give showers to south London, NW KentSussex and Surrey. A straight Easterly, ENE'erly or ESE'erly will affect the whole of London, south Essex, and the north coast of Kent (except in an ESE'erly)
  3. Here in suburban NE London we have had virtually no thaw today. The temperature so far has held at about 0c. It was stilll about -1c at midday. I dont see it thawing for the rest of the day. Only a couple of hours till the sun goes down.
  4. Do you have any real evidence to back up that statement?
  5. Central London always struggles with lying snow. Just go a couple of miles out of the centre, and the suburbs are covered.
  6. I dont see how thats going to happen. The main clump of showers in the north sea isnt moving inland. The showers that are across east anglia are very light. Un;ess im missing something?
  7. Does anyone think the showers pushing south from east anglia look quite light at the moment? Cant quite see where this 5cm is meant to come from.
  8. The climate has always changed and always will. We may have been in a gentle warming trend, but it is part of a natural cycle.
  9. Nope on the latest BBC forecast they mentioned Benson, Oxfordshire is -13c and Wilmslow in Cheshire is currently -15c! And its only 11pm! There is a potential for some serious records to be broken tonight. Those temps could easily fall by another 4 or 5 degrees. Peter Cockroft on BBC London even mentioned the London suburbs getting down to -7c. Central London -3c.
  10. In a straight north-easterly Kent and Norfolk, and coastal Suffolk are most at risk. We need more of a straight easterly in my neck of the woods. However, that is with a straight streamer. If a trough develops then i think all areas will be at risk. Isnt the wind profile meant to veer more to an easterly later in the weekend? It starts more NE'erly, then switches if im not mistaken...
  11. The 10 o clock news weather forecast showed the snow showers tomorrow afternoon pepping up quite nicely over East Anglia, London and Kent. Could be another interesting day tomorrow! And then there's the weekend... A lot of people are saying the snow will be light, but there is a lot of potential. Convection off the north sea is unpredictable. No model is going to pick it up, especially this far out. Streamers and showers will develop at a few hours notice.
  12. So, the snow showers for East Anglia and the SE seems to be upgrading slightly for tomorrow. Anyone want to give their opinion on how much we're likely to see?
  13. Do you have a link to the latest NAE precip charts for tomorrow?
  14. Theres a crop of showers coming off the north sea into NE England, Lincs and towards East Anglia. Any chance of those moving into east anglia pushing south towards the SE?
  15. Its moving SSW. Wont make it up the Thames unfortunately.
  16. The snow has now stopped. We can all look forward to a big freeze tonight. Central London temps are forecast to go down to -3c, which means outer London probably about -4c/-5c and rural areas could go much lower.
  17. Still snowing moderately in Ilford with big flakes. Only a matter of time before it stops.
  18. I feel for you mate. Youve probably got winds coming straight off the estuary. What is your temp/dew points like?
  19. Just when i thought it was stopping, its gotten heavier again! Big flakes, blowing around in the wind, really heavy. I dont know if any of you were watching BBC news a few mins ago. They were interviewing someone, and behind him on the screen was the palace of westminster, in the middle of a blizzard.
  20. Snow easing off now, but we must have about 2 inches of snow on the ground after that top up. Very nice. Unfortunately the snow seems to be heading south quite rapidly, so will probably stop soon.
  21. I think that was me! I never said it never settles, just that it takes very heavy snow and very cold temps. Good on you mate! There of London that is snow covered, the better. Chucking it down here, blowing about in a strengthening wind. Everything is covered again. Must have already added a couple of cm's.
  22. Still chucking it down, but the flakes have got a lot smaller. Settling on the roads again, which takes a lot! Temp must have dropped in the last hour. Giving a nice top-up.
