Heard some distant rumbles of thunder between 4.40 and 6.30 here in Oxford. Not much of a thunderstorm event, and it doesn't look like there's any more due today as the risk region seems to have shifted northeast on Ceefax 401.

Very uncomfortable night, tho, with temps not dropping below 19.5C.

Deluge in Haywards Heath, Mid-Sussex, everything in the mix including fork lighting and torrential rain for 30 mins. Still going,...the storms seem to have merged together and are moving north.

Looks like IOW Dorset and Hampshire are in for some storms in the next few hours - strange that the Met Office have removed the severe weather warning this area had first thing this morning ??

At last - had my first storm of the year at around 4am this morning and what a cracker it was ! Went on for about an hour with lots of lightning although sadly only sheet. Pretty torrential rain for a while too. Looks like we could be in for another very soon as well and certainly getting dark here at the moment.

An update to what I posted earlier.

About 3.15am was standing by the window trying to guage where the storm was coming from when there was a tremendous flash of cg lightning and crack of thunder that close that it appeared to have struck in the gardens across the street. I ducked and cat shot behind the sofa. hubby said he could hear the car alarms going off in the next street. Then it started raining heavily for about 1/4 of an hour. didn't hear anymore thunder until about 5am (ish) when we had several rather loud long rumbles (was half a sleep so couldn't guage things exactly).

Rumbling again now has been for about an hour.

oh yeah the thunder in the first storm (2am ish) seemed rather muted like it was trying to keep the noise down because everyone was sleeping
