Half hearted storm this morning at about 1.45am. Reasonable lightning but at long intervals and long deep thunder but on the quite side !

I caught the same storm (if you can call it that!) and I can only recall one lightning strike, but that was very close judging by the 2 second delay before hearing the thunder.

So what happened to last night's storms in Dorset? We were down in Poole for a short break and stayed an extra night in hope of seeing some thunderstorms, in light of the promising forecast. But apart from some distant lightning over the channel at around 23.30, nothing materialised. Not even any rain.

WEll I went on a pathetic excuse for a chase and caught a storm near Bridlington. Have now rushed home as it's heading this way and it looks to be closing in. Makes the chase rather pointless if it's going to hit here anyways :D There was 4 or 5 CG bolts I saw, but was driving at the time and the terrain was hilly with the only parking area down in a valley. hopefully, it wil lstill be electric when it catches me..

Hi,

Not been to bad here...

We first had the sounds of thunder at around 4:30pm and they have been going on since (still going on).

however whilst we have had a bit of rain here, we have not actually had any lightening/thunder "here", only in the distance.

:D

Another big one to the west of us, this one is closer.... or bigger.... or both!

Moving north again, going to miss us - dammit we need the rain!

Just had the most incredible storm that brewed up seemingly out of nowhere, rain heavier than I've ever seen, frequent flashes and whip crack thunder.

About time the Chilterns had a decent storm

Some fantastic lightning here at the moment, some in the distance somewhat akin to an artillery bombardment in the distance and some that is turning night into day right overhead - fantastic! And of course some much welcome rain.

Got one right over us now! Lights are flickering - might be offline soon!

4.2mm of rain in the last hour, wind getting squally.

Absolutely amazing storm here this evening (8 miles south of Cambridge).

Lasted about three hours, plenty of lightening - some very close. The electricity has been on and off all night. The electricity lines in the field at the back where hit, lots of sparks everywhere.

My unofficial rain gauge (a bucket in the garden) has just over 2 inches of rain in it.

All my water butts are now full

It is still rumbling away

Whoa! It's proper intense here now, lightning every 1 or 2 seconds, not particularly loud yet, but haven't seen a display like this for a while, standing in the garden like a right freak - lol

Power brownout just crashed the PC. Storm moving ENE. Intensity decreasing. Biggest one I've seen in a long while. Current rainfall 8.8mm, 7.8 in the last hour!
