The latest glug glug reports

Jan 134.8mm 156.4%

Feb 84.1mm 132.2%

Mar 46.6mm 68%

Apr 7.8mm 12.1%

May 87.9mm 160.1%

Jun 254.9mm 383.9%

Jul so far 109.6mm 228.2% **

** Looking at Country File forecast this is likely to be the total for July

Total for the year so far 725.7mm. Annual average 825.4mm

Wettest Year 2000 with 1065.8mm of rain.

I have worked out, in order to exceed your wettest year of 2000, more than 340mm rain would need to fall,

which equates to 68mm (2.72in) per month which is certainly within the realms of possibility.

If we had average rainfall from now on the record would go.

July has managed 140.7mm so far and I don't expect any more before the end of the month. This takes the annual total to 835.1mm against an annual average of 1060mm. The wettest year on record was 2000 with 1376.9mm so we'd need another 541.6 mm to equal it, not beyond the realms of possibility as September averages over 90mm and October, November and December all average over 100mm.

By no means the most I expect, from a local station in Colchester..

Jan 46mm

Feb 66mm

Mar 342mm

Apr 0.6mm

May 68mm

Jun 52mm

Total = 575mm

According to this weather station's stats Colchester had 342mm (13.68 inches - ;) ) of rain in March,

but just down the road Leigh-on-Sea had just 32.2mm (1.28 inches) in the same month.

There must have been some localised downpour over Colchester,

or was this an error with a decimal place?

452.4mm (18.10 inches) rain during the "summer months" of May, June and July is an awful lot of rain.

Hiya ThunderSquall

I did scrap that one and amended with stats from another local station in my post (post 5) of this thread and have also put updated rainfall amounts at post 49.

I suspect it was a large error either by a water hose thingy in the persons garden or a data download error, but, nether the less, I wont now take that stations data for stats and am using the ones which I quote in posts 5 and 49.

That's something I'll be comparing later this evening, thanks for the hint.

How much rain did you record yesterday?

On the 2nd we had 4.8mm in Wincanton, yet I was around the Bath area, between 9am and noon and

it seemed more like 12mm in that area.

Finaly found a weather station only a few miles from here and the total for there station for the year is 300mm, i know we have not had a lot of rain in comparison to other people but that seems very low to what people on here are reporting

Andy

Could be right, I am only reporting 332mm up to 3rd August, but bear in mind you have probably had a lot more rain than my area, this area misses everything, even missed the deluge a few fridays ago.

Recent heavyish rain over the last 24 hours have pushed August up to 31.2mm so far, although this is up to 6pm, and its raining Cats and Dogs at the moment, so the yearly total now at

364mm

This Month so far has been very dry at least it's managed to rain the last three days but it seems to be trying to put a dint in our record attempt. Plenty of time to go but if we're going for the record the last thing we need is another settled unsettled spell. :lol:

871 mm so far this year, not counting today's miniscule addition; it took until October 25th to reach the same amount last year.

The summer needs another 27.5 mm to become the wettest on record here, so a distinct possibility. 2004 was the wettest summer on my records which go back to 1963 but looking at other local records 1912 was probably even wetter.

Buxton's wettest was in 1956 but we seemed to miss the heaviest downpours that year.

Yearly Total still only at 367mm, this is looking like a Very Below average year for Rainfall in South East Essex, which is amazing considering all the floods and the records that have been broken this year due to rainfall.

September Total stands at 0.02mm

Ah thanks for bumping this thread Paul.

Jan = 109.5mm

Feb = 121.5mm

Mar = 63mm

Apr = 10.5mm

May = 159mm

June = 114mm

July = 131mm

Aug = 62mm

Sep = 0mm so far

Total = 770.5mm

There may be some sort of correlation going on here ; Dec, Jan & Feb had 100+mm, March 63mm and April merely 10.5mm. Then we had the vastly 100+mm months of May, June & July before a 62mm month in Aug. So will September continue the correlation by the very dry start continuing to become like April's low total?

Correlation = 3 months 100mm+, 1 month average, 1 month very dry.
