After such a awful run of weather, it appears to be finally settling down as the Azore High at last makes it's presence known, but will this continue that's the 64,000 dollar question?

I am going for a warmer month just because the weather is finally changing and my punt for August is 17.1

Thanks

Mark

Now we are a bit closer to August I am revising my guestimate upwards to 16.4C

I can’t really see two below average months in a row in high summer, no way of knowing really, but if the beginning part of August sets a trend with and Azores high ridging in occasionally! I will go for slightly above average at 16.8c.

My guess is 16.8: slightly below the rolling 10 year average but rather higher than the 1971-2000 average.

Despite the intrusion of the Azores high into the summer waterworld party I think it will only an intermittent intrusion and will therefore go safely with an average 16.2c please.

Quite a hard month to call. I was spectacularly wrong last month but back-to-back below average summer months were rare even in the 80s. The last time it happened was 1993. So back to business this month, with occasional ridging in of the Azores high keeping the minima up and giving a warm month overall. Similar to 2004, though nowhere near as wet.

17.6°C

Well I can't see it being as cold and miserable as July. Hopefully the last few days will be a sign of things to come for August, although the daytime temperatures haven't been exciting and night times are still surprisingly cold for the time of year. Therefore I'm not going to get carried away and predict a really warm August so I'm only going for 16.5.

I hope I'm proved wrong.

I'm surprised nobody's gone under 15c actaully. ;)

Not really surprising given the very warm start to the month that is happening.

The thing is though, we've just had a well below average month, without any particuarly cold synoptics being involved. In my view, SST's are quite condusive to mid Atlantic blocking and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a week or two of persistent northerly winds through this August. So despite the warm start, I still think another pretty cool month is quite possible.
