UK Outlook for Wednesday 27 Aug 2008 to Friday 5 Sep 2008:

Next Wednesday should be cloudy and windy across Northern and Northwestern parts with periods of rain, which could extend to the northeast at times. Further south it should be dry with some sunshine, the best of which to be found in southern and southeastern parts. The rain should become confined to the far Northwest on Thursday, with fine weather elsewhere through the rest of the week. Temperatures will be generally near average but locally warm in the southeast. Even the far northwest is expected to become dry and brighter over next weekend with fine weather persisting elsewhere. Mainly dry and bright weather is expected to continue into the following week, although there are indications of it turning more unsettled later, especially in the north.

UK Outlook for Thursday 28 Aug 2008 to Saturday 6 Sep 2008:

Northwestern areas are expected to remain rather unsettled during the latter part of next week with some rain at times, this mainly over higher ground in the west. The rest of the United Kingdom should remain mostly dry with variable cloud and some sunshine, though some overnight mist or fog patches may develop. Temperatures are expected to be close to average in the northwest, but across central and southeastern areas, it should be warm, both by day and by night. The northwest, southeast split continues through the following week. Outbreaks of rain are expected in the northwest, these perhaps extending southeastwards into some central and western areas, but the far southeast should maintain mainly dry conditions. Temperatures will remain near normal in the northwest, and generally warm for the southeast.

Some very warm weather is expected for many central and southern areas, perhaps locally hot, and there should be some sunshine too. Nights may be very warm and oppressive for a time. Later in the weekend, there is a risk of some thundery weather spreading up from the south, affecting mainly southern and eastern areas. As we head into the following week, a return to very unsettled conditions is likely as low pressure becomes re-established close to the United Kingdom. This will mean outbreaks of rain or showers in all areas and some of these may become heavy and prolonged. Temperatures are likely to ease back to near or rather below normal values with the risk of some very chilly days, especially if accompanied by strong winds.

UK Outlook for Saturday 30 Aug 2008 to Monday 8 Sep 2008:

The last weekend in August is set to be very warm with some sunshine across much of England and Wales, though it's likely to turn thundery in places during Sunday. For much of Scotland and Northern Ireland, this weekend will be a little cooler with some rain at times. For the first week of September, the weather is looking cooler and more widely unsettled again, with the driest and warmest of the weather confined to the southeast of England. This will mean spells of rain for many, especially in the north and west. By next weekend, the unsettled weather is likely to become confined to the northwest of the United Kingdom, with generally warmer, drier conditions further south.

UK Outlook for Sunday 31 Aug 2008 to Tuesday 9 Sep 2008:

The last day of August is expected to be very warm across southern, central and eastern Britain with some sunshine, before turning thundery later. Elsewhere across the United Kingdom, Sunday is expected to be fairly bright but fresher, though with rain spreading into northwestern areas. For the first week or so of September, the weather will become generally cooler and more unsettled across the United Kingdom, with spells of wet and windy weather. The wettest and windiest of the weather is most likely towards the north and west, while southeastern areas should benefit from longer-lasting brighter spells of weather. After a very warm end to August in the south and east, the beginning of September is expected to have temperatures closer to the seasonal average.

UK Outlook for Monday 1 Sep 2008 to Wednesday 10 Sep 2008:

During the first week we are expecting unsettled conditions across the United Kingdom. There is a risk of heavy rain or showers and strong to gale force winds turning up anywhere, although these are most likely to affect western and northwestern areas, and on Tuesday and Wednesday in particular. Some brief drier and brighter intervals are also expected. These are most likely to occur in eastern and southeastern areas where it may also become rather warm at times. In the west and northwest the temperature is likely to be either near normal or rather cool. From the weekend onwards we are currently expecting generally changeable conditions to continue, with northwestern areas likely to have the most of any rainfall and the southeast probably experiencing the driest and brightest conditions.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 3 Sep 2008 to Friday 12 Sep 2008:

Wednesday is likely to be breezy with some sunshine but also occasional showers. A more prolonged period of rain could spread south across northern and eastern parts. Better weather is expected on Thursday and Friday, with showers on Thursday dying out on Friday. Westerly winds over the weekend will bring unsettled conditions with showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed by some dry and brighter interludes. It will often be windy with a risk of gales around exposed coasts, particularly in the south. Temperatures through the second half of next week should be near or a little below average. UK Outlook for Thursday 4 Sep 2008 to Saturday 13 Sep 2008:

Thursday will be a day of sunshine and showers, although these should become mainly confined to eastern parts later, with some good sunny spells in the west. Cloud and rain should spread into western parts during Friday, perhaps spreading eastwards to other parts over the weekend. The start of the following week will continue unsettled with further showers or longer spells of rain, although there is a chance of some drier and sunnier weather for a time in the north. Temperatures through this period will be below average with some cool nights. There are hints more settled and warmer weather to become established across southern parts from the middle of the following week onwards, although the north is likely to remain unsettled.

UK Outlook for Friday 5 Sep 2008 to Sunday 14 Sep 2008:

Many areas should start dry on Friday. However, cloud and rain, heavy at times, will sweep eastwards. Clearer weather, but still with blustery showers will follow the rain eastwards later on Friday and during Saturday with some showers heavy. It will be very windy too, with a risk of gales in many areas, but perhaps more especially in the south. Unsettled weather is likely to last into the following week with further rain or showers, but it should turn less windy with time. Temperatures are expected to be near or below normal, and it will feel chilly in rain and strong winds. Later in the week, there is a hint of something warmer and more settled developing, particularly in the south.

UK Outlook for Saturday 6 Sep 2008 to Monday 15 Sep 2008:

Next weekend is expected to start very unsettled and windy with rain or showers in most places, though a trend to drier conditions is expected for Sunday. It will be windy too, especially on Saturday when there is a risk of coastal gales. After a drier interlude at the beginning of next week, further rain is expected to spread eastwards by midweek with the risk of some heavy rain for western areas, and perhaps some thundery showers in the east. After a cool or very cool start, temperatures should recover into next week with some eastern areas especially expected to become warm. Thereafter, a trend to warmer and drier conditions is indicated with southerly winds, but there is still likely to be some rain, perhaps thundery at times.

Very unsettled with heavy rain

Everyone has their own view on what 'good weather' means but we think you'd be hard pressed to classify conditions during the next few days as anything other than atrocious! Heavy rain will sweep across most of the country on Friday with the likelihood of localised flooding. In places over 50mm of rain may fall. During the weekend the unsettled theme continues, although the rain should become more showery allowing for some brighter spells. Developments next week are still very uncertain.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 10 Sep 2008 to Friday 19 Sep 2008:

Wednesday and Thursday will both be generally unsettled, especially in western areas where there will be some heavy bursts. It may also become windy in the west with a risk of gales. The period Friday to Sunday will also be generally unsettled with either showers or longer spells of rain for most areas, with the east having the best of any drier and brighter intervals. Some heavy bursts of rain are again likely, especially in the west, although it will tend to become gradually less windy. During the following week there is no particularly strong signal for any notable weather events to occur, except that it is likely to remain generally unsettled. Some rain or showers are likely, along with some dry and bright spells.

UK Outlook for Thursday 11 Sep 2008 to Saturday 20 Sep 2008:

Thursday and Friday will continue the current unsettled theme with further outbreaks of rain. It will be windy too, with gales likely around northern and western coasts. Rain and strong winds will clear later on Friday from the west. From Saturday to Monday it will be drier at first, but will turn increasingly unsettled by Monday with strong winds and outbreaks of rain spreading from the west. From Monday to Thursday there is a chance that it may become more settled in the south with warmer temperatures and a spell of drier weather possible, though the northern half of the UK will remain unsettled. But by Friday and Saturday it may well turn autumnal again across much of the UK.

Further rain is also likely over northern and northwestern parts of the UK on Saturday, though the south will be dry with some sunshine likely. From Sunday to Tuesday it will be generally rather unsettled for many northern parts of the UK with showers or outbreaks of rain, though the south and east will be predominantly drier and more settled. From Wednesday to Friday the unsettled weather over the northern half of the UK will gradually return southwards to affect all parts, with rain and strong winds expected over much of the UK again over the weekend.

UK Outlook for Saturday 13 Sep 2008 to Monday 22 Sep 2008:

Most places should be dry and sunny at times on Saturday as a ridge of high pressure builds across the south, although further showers or periods of rain are likely over northern, northwestern and far eastern parts of the UK on Saturday. On Sunday mainly dry and bright in the south, but with some rain in the north and west. From Monday to Friday there will be generally unsettled weather over the northern half of the UK, but drier with bright periods, and some showers, in the south. The following weekend will be unsettled with a westerly flow giving showers for most parts, and periods of rain, perhaps heavy at times, in the north and west. Temperatures near normal. Confidence in the extended outlook period is low.

UK Outlook for Sunday 14 Sep 2008 to Tuesday 23 Sep 2008:

There is likely to be some rain on Sunday, perhaps heavy in places at first, but this will gradually be dying out during the day, with drier and brighter conditions following. It is then expected to be mainly dry with some sunshine in places on Monday. Conditions are expected to remain fairly settled on Tuesday and Wednesday, with variable cloud and some sunshine and staying mainly dry, possibly just the odd shower. There may be some overnight mist and fog, this clearing during the mornings. Temperatures mostly near normal by day, but perhaps overnight ground frost in the north. From Thursday onwards, conditions look set to become unsettled with a westerly flow giving showers for most parts, and periods of rain, perhaps heavy at times, in the north and west.

UK Outlook for Monday 15 Sep 2008 to Wednesday 24 Sep 2008:

It is expected to be rather cloudy with some bright or sunny spells on Monday, although most places dry with only isolated showers. Conditions are expected to remain fairly settled on Tuesday as well with largely dry and sometimes bright conditions, and temperatures near normal. In the further outlook there is a great deal of uncertainty. However, it is likely to become increasingly unsettled through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with broken cloud, bright periods and some rain or showers at times with a generally easterly wind and northern areas perhaps largely dry. Through the following weekend and for the start of the following week there is a trend for an area of low pressure to be centred across the UK with showery conditions and bright spells.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 17 Sep 2008 to Friday 26 Sep 2008:

On Wednesday and Thursday there will be some sunshine in most areas, especially in the west, but there will also be a few light showers around, although that said most places will remain dry. Then during the period Friday through to Monday conditions are expected to gradually become more unsettled from the northwest. Thus central and southern areas will be generally dry and bright at first but outbreaks of locally heavy rain will gradually encroach from the northwest, although the rain may not reach the southeast until after the weekend. There is an increasing risk of gales in the far northwest. The temperature will be around or slightly below average. Then during the following week a south to southwesterly airflow is expected, with the likelihood of further rain or showers.

UK Outlook for Thursday 18 Sep 2008 to Saturday 27 Sep 2008:

Initially it is expected that much of Scotland and Northern Ireland, especially the northwestern areas, will have rather cloudy skies with occasional rain. England and Wales on the other hand are expected to experience mostly dry and settled autumnal weather. Thus here we can expect misty starts, with patchy fog gradually dispersing to allow some sunshine to develop, although there will often be large amounts of cloud drifting around. The wind across England and Wales will be mainly light in strength, although perhaps locally fresh or strong at times in exposed southern areas. The afternoon temperatures will be generally close to average for September. Then as we head through the second week we are expecting a gradual deterioration to less settled conditions across the whole of the United Kingdom.

UK Outlook for Friday 19 Sep 2008 to Sunday 28 Sep 2008:

During next weekend and into the following week, many parts of the United Kingdom away from the northwest should have a generally settled spell of Autumnal weather. This should mean several generally dry days with some pleasantly warm sunshine, though southern areas may have brisk easterly winds at times. Nights may be rather chilly on occasions, and across central areas especially there may be patchy fog that may linger into the morning. Across northwestern areas, it is expected to be rather more changeable with near average temperatures and some rain at times. During the middle to latter part of the following week, changeable conditions with rain and perhaps strong winds may extend southeastwards to many areas, though the far southeast could remain generally fine throughout.
