UK Outlook for Friday 8 Aug 2008 to Sunday 17 Aug 2008:

Initially on Friday it will be unsettled and windy in the northeast, although as the day goes on fine conditions in central, southern and western parts will spread to all areas, with a chilly night to follow. Then after a fine start a return to more unsettled and breezier conditions is likely to return from the west during the course of Saturday, with some heavy rain expected in western areas later. Unsettled conditions are expected to persist thereafter, with showers or longer spells of rain likely in most places, these heavy at times, especially in the west and north. However some drier and brighter interludes are also likely. It will be windy at times with a risk of gales and temperatures will be generally close to or cooler than average.

UK Outlook for Saturday 9 Aug 2008 to Monday 18 Aug 2008:

Saturday will start chilly, dry and bright but thickening cloud will spread locally heavy rain and strengthening winds into western areas during the course of the day. The rain will continue eastwards, reaching all remaining areas during Sunday. Then the period Monday through to Wednesday will be unsettled in all areas with a mixture of rain or showers for all parts. Some of the rain is likely to be heavy at times, especially in the northwest, although some brighter interludes are expected too. It will also be windy at times, especially in the south and southwest where there is a risk of gales near exposed coasts. After Wednesday we are currently expecting the unsettled conditions to continue, with further locally heavy rain and showers and below average temperatures.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 12 Aug 2008 to Thursday 21 Aug 2008:

From Tuesday onwards next week, conditions look rather unsettled across a large part of the country with showers breaking out and some of these are likely to be locally heavy and thundery. There may also be longer periods of rain at times, especially in the west and south. Some areas will see some brighter interludes however. Breezy with perhaps coastal gales, again most likely in the west and south of the UK. Temperatures are expected to be generally near normal to rather cool for most. There is an increasing chance of some drier and brighter weather towards the end of next week. There is a hint at the moment of the drier and brighter conditions continuing into the following week, especially across the south with perhaps showers in the north.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 13 Aug 2008 to Friday 22 Aug 2008:

On Wednesday and Thursday, it will be unsettled with showers, some locally heavy and thundery, although longer periods of rain, especially in the west. Some drier and brighter spells though and probably a more general improvement on Thursday. At the moment it looks as though there could be a lull in the shower activity on Friday in the west and on Saturday in the east with a greater amount of dry weather, though sunshine may still be a little limited. However, turning unsettled again from Sunday onwards and through the following week with spells of rain or showers. Breezy at times too with an increasing risk of gales. Temperatures near normal to rather cool for most, with possibly some chilly nights in the north.

UK Outlook for Thursday 14 Aug 2008 to Saturday 23 Aug 2008:

The unseasonably unsettled weather is set to continue across for much of the period, courtesy of low pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic. This means a continuation of the often rather cool and changeable weather that we have got accustomed to of late. The weather certainly looks unsettled between Thursday and next Tuesday, with all parts of the United Kingdom having showers or longer spells of rain, broken only by the odd day of dry weather. Towards the latter part of the period, the weather may become more settled in the south and east as pressure increases. Temperatures by day are expected to range from near to below the seasonal average, with the warmest conditions more likely towards the end of the period.

I hope i have got this in the right area, i have just had a friend contact me asking if i can get an accurate wind forcast for maritime area Thames/Dover for the neaxt few days. As yet all i can find is updates every hour for current conditions. Looking at land based forcasts Monday looks like the day to cross the channel but as i say maritime forcasts would be better but i can't find anything so if anybody knows where to find one please point me in the right direction.

Many Thanks

UK Outlook for Friday 15 Aug 2008 to Sunday 24 Aug 2008:

After a cool and showery day on Friday, the weather should generally improve over the coming weekend, with more in the way of warm sunshine and less showers around. However, more wet and windy weather is expected to arrive from the Atlantic to affect southwest England, Wales and Northern Ireland later on Sunday. From Monday to Wednesday, the weather looks distinctly unsettled and often quite windy across the United Kingdom, with a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers heavy in places and merging to give more prolonged spells of rain at times, while also turning disappointingly cool again. Towards the end of next week and into the following weekend, there is a hint of a change to more settled, warmer weather, especially in the south and east.

UK Outlook for Saturday 16 Aug 2008 to Monday 25 Aug 2008:

The period Saturday through to Tuesday next week will be generally unsettled and occasionally breezy across the United Kingdom with either showers or longer spells of rain. There is a fair chance that southern areas will have persistent and heavy rain at times. The temperature will be mostly around or slightly cooler than average for the time of year. Then from Wednesday onwards the current indications are that the weather may start to settle down a bit and become drier and brighter with more in the way of sunshine, especially in southern and eastern parts of England. Despite this, further north and west there remains the risk of a little more rain or showers at times.

Initially it will remain unsettled with either showers or longer spells of rain, some of which will be heavy. Northern areas are most likely to experience the heaviest rain while southern parts will have the fewest showers and more in the way of drier and brighter intervals. UK Outlook for Tuesday 19 Aug 2008 to Thursday 28 Aug 2008:

Tuesday will be an unsettled day with showers or rain for most parts and strong winds in the south. Conditions should improve on Wednesday as drier and brighter conditions slowly spread in from the southwest. Temperatures will be rather cool to near normal. The second half of next week will remain unsettled in the north with further rain or showers. It is expected to be drier and brighter in southern parts although the more unsettled weather may spread southwards for a time. Temperatures again will be near normal to rather cool. There is an increasing signal for drier and brighter weather for the weekend and into the following week. UK Outlook for Wednesday 20 Aug 2008 to Friday 29 Aug 2008:

Outbreaks of rain will be likely for at least some southern areas for a time on Wednesday and possibly windy too. Drier and brighter than of late with winds mainly light on Thursday. Friday and through the weekend will be rather unsettled, particularly in the north-west, with plenty of cloud and rain as well as windy conditions. Temperatures around or below normal and feeling rather cool, especially in the rain. Occasional spells of rain crossing other areas but an increased emphasis on drier and brighter weather towards the end of the weekend. This signal will continue into the following week too, most likely across southern parts where it will also become warmer, although the north will probably stay rather unsettled.

their forecast certainly shows continuity, the idea of the weather becoming more settled from the south extending slowly further north has been in every forecast issued since 9th August. for the BH weekend Im referring to.

contrast that with how the various models at that range have twisted and turned. it shows the idea of taking a long term detached look at more than the GFS and ECMWF output can give, if its right that is(!), better results.

UK Outlook for Thursday 21 Aug 2008 to Saturday 30 Aug 2008:

Generally rather cloudy on Thursday with showers and some longer spells of rain locally. Probably turning brighter on Friday but still a few showers, possibly most frequent towards the south and east. Rather unsettled through the weekend with showers or spells of rain affecting most parts at some time. Temperatures are expected to be around or below normal with perhaps some chilly nights at first especially in the north. From Sunday onwards, most southern and eastern areas could see a little more in the way of sunshine. However, northwestern areas are likely to stay mainly cloudy with occasional spells of wet weather. This trend is likely to continue through the following week with drier and brighter conditions in the south and also becoming warmer, but rather unsettled in the north.

UK Outlook for Friday 22 Aug 2008 to Sunday 31 Aug 2008:

The weather is set to remain rather cool and breezy on Friday and through the weekend, with a mix of sunny intervals and showery bursts of rain, although it should tend to become somewhat warmer and drier towards the southeast of England as we head through Sunday and Monday. From Tuesday onwards, the drier, warmer conditions are expected to spread steadily northwards across the United Kingdom, although it will probably remain cool and breezy in the far north and northwest throughout the week, with further spells of rain. For the last weekend of the month, the weather is likely to gradually turn more unsettled again from the northwest, although confidence is very low by this stage.

UK Outlook for Saturday 23 Aug 2008 to Monday 1 Sep 2008:

For southern, central and eastern Britain it looks much drier this weekend and into Monday, with more in the way of warm sunshine. However, as you head northwestwards towards Scotland and Northern Ireland, it continues unsettled with spells of wet and breezy weather. For the rest of the period, some rain will make its way across central and southeastern Britain at times, though it should be fairly infrequent and of a light intensity. So on the whole, the weather remains unsettled for the rest of the month towards the north and west of the United Kingdom with further spells of rain, while being a good deal drier towards the southeast. Throughout the period daytime temperatures will range from near normal in the northwest, to above normal in the southeast.

you have to award high marks to the Met O for this bit of fairly long range forecasting; since 9 August they have consistently predicted a drier fairly warmish BH weekend for the south and southeast. It looks, assuming all 3 main models have got the right idea, they will be proved correct.

UK Outlook for Sunday 24 Aug 2008 to Tuesday 2 Sep 2008:

At last there are signs of rather more 'summery' weather on the way for many. Southern and eastern Britain it looks like turning much drier on Sunday after overnight rain clears, with more in the way of warm sunshine lasting into next week. However, as one heads northwestwards towards Scotland and N.Ireland, it remains unsettled with spells of wet and breezy weather at times. For the rest of the period, some rain could make its way across central and southeastern Britain at times, though it should be fairly infrequent and of a light intensity with much more dry and bright weather than we have seen of late. Further towards the northwest, particularly NW.Scotland, it is likely to stay rather more unsettled with some rain, showers and stronger winds at times.

During the first week northwestern parts of the United Kingdom are expected to be unsettled with either showers or longer spells of rain. It will also be windy at times here, especially during the first part of the week. On the other hand, southern and eastern areas are more likely to remain largely dry and there should be increasing amounts of sunshine. The temperature will be close to average at first but it will become generally warm as the week goes on and perhaps locally very warm. Then over the weekend and into the following week we are expecting a generally southwesterly airflow with a little rain at times in the north and west but little, if any, rain in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 26 Aug 2008 to Thursday 4 Sep 2008:

Most parts will be cloudy on Tuesday with outbreaks of rain. The rain being heaviest and most persistent in the north and west where it is also expected to be windy. The rain should be lighter and more patchy in the south and east. The northwest is likely to remain unsettled on Wednesday, but most other parts should be dry with some sunshine. Similar weather is expected at the end of next week and over the weekend with the Northwest being unsettled but mainly fine weather in the south and east. Temperatures will be mainly near average, perhaps warm in the southeast. A good deal of fine and warm weather is likely for the following week, although more unsettled weather in the northwest may spread to some western parts later.
