UK Outlook for Thursday 17 Apr 2008 to Saturday 26 Apr 2008:

Some dry, sunny spells are expected next Thursday, especially over eastern and northeastern areas, however cloud and rain may well spread into western parts of the UK, along with some strong winds. Conditions are forecast to become unsettled across all parts next Friday with rain likely in the east and showers in the west. Further unsettled weather is also expected next weekend with showers and spells of rain, along with some strong winds at times. The following week looks likely to be fairly unsettled too, with the driest conditions in the southeast. Rather cold initially, but temperatures should rise to around normal later next week, perhaps to a little above normal during the following week, most likely across southern England.

UK Outlook for Friday 18 Apr 2008 to Sunday 27 Apr 2008:

Skies are likely to be cloudy to start the period with rain in southern Britain, possibly heavy in parts, with some showers in the north, these falling as snow over higher ground. It will feel rather cold throughout, with a brisk easterly wind, strong at times and perhaps with gales about exposed coastal areas. Conditions are expected to remain unsettled through the end of next weekend and into the following week, with rain at times, but also some sunny breaks, these more frequent in the north, where again some hill snow is likely. Winds will continue to be mostly easterly and strong at times, with temperatures generally below normal to at most normal. Later the following week, indications are that temperatures and rain amounts are likely to return to normal.

UK Outlook for Saturday 19 Apr 2008 to Monday 28 Apr 2008:

Next weekend will start mostly dry in the north, though with just a chance of some wintry showers on hills exposed to the easterly winds. In southern parts of the United Kingdom, however, it is likely to be cloudy and unsettled with rain at times. The unsettled conditions will gradually extend through all but the far north later in the weekend, but occasional clear or sunny breaks are likely. Early the following week, cloudy and generally unsettled weather in the south will slowly give way to drier and more settled conditions extending from the north. Temperatures are likely to gradually return to near normal, or even a little above in some sheltered places. Later the following week, indications are that temperatures and rain amounts are likely to remain near normal.

UK Outlook for Sunday 20 Apr 2008 to Tuesday 29 Apr 2008:

Low pressure will be anchored to the south of the UK at the start of this period bringing outbreaks of rain or some showers here at first. Further north, particularly for Scotland it should be drier, brighter and generally more pleasant. Through the following week (21st), the low pressure will gradually move away so most places should see some spells of drier and brighter weather with lighter winds, and temperatures near or even a little above average. By the following weekend, heading in to the following week (28th) low pressure will approach slowly from the west, bringing southerly or southwesterly winds, and a consequent rise in temperatures with some warm days possible, particularly in the south and east where the mainly dry conditions are most likely to last.

UK Outlook for Monday 21 Apr 2008 to Wednesday 30 Apr 2008:

Low pressure will be close to the south of the UK on Monday bringing the threat of some drizzly-rain here at first. Through the first week of the forecast, the low pressure will gradually move away so most places should see some spells of drier, brighter weather with lighter winds, and temperatures near or even a little above average. Through the rest of the forecast period, low pressure will approach slowly from the west, bringing southerly or southwesterly winds, and a consequent rise in temperatures. Some warm days are possible, particularly in the south and east where the mainly dry conditions are most likely to last longest, though as the low-pressure moves ever close there is an increased risk of more spells of wet weather, particularly in the west.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 22 Apr 2008 to Thursday 1 May 2008:

Generally fine and dry, but rather cloudy across the UK through Tuesday and Wednesday, but with a risk of some drizzle in the east and over hills on Monday, and some rain possible across Northern Ireland on Wednesday. Through Thursday, Friday and the following weekend the weather looks like continuing mostly dry with some sunshine and warming temperatures, especially away from the eastern Scotland where an onshore wind is likely. Some western parts of the UK, especially Northern Ireland and western Scotland, may also be at risk from rain at times during these days. Through the following week it is likely to become more unsettled, and perhaps cooler with an increasing risk of stronger winds and wetter spells.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 23 Apr 2008 to Friday 2 May 2008:

Showers or some longer spells of rain are expected through Wednesday and Thursday, especially in the north and west, with some southern and eastern locations remaining dry. Temperatures around the seasonal average, but becoming warmer on Thursday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday should see mainly dry, bright and warm weather across much of the United Kingdom, with some coasts cooler with onshore breezes. However, northern and western parts may be cloudier, cooler and windier with showers or longer spells of rain likely. Similar conditions are likely through the early part of the following week, but with great uncertainty for conditions thereafter, with the likelihood of slightly cooler and less settled weather developing across the United Kingdom.

UK Outlook for Saturday 26 Apr 2008 to Monday 5 May 2008:

Southern and eastern parts of the UK are likely to be dry and rather warm with sunny spells to start next weekend, perhaps with some very warm weather in southeast England. However, by next Sunday, it is likely that some rain or showers will push into the southeast. Meanwhile, northern and western parts of the UK can expect to stay more cloudy and breezy through this period with some showers or longer spells of rain and temperatures around or just above normal. That more unsettled weather will spread across all parts at the start of next week, with showery conditions persisting throughout the week and into the following weekend. Temperatures will drop back to around or a little below normal with some overnight frosts possible, especially in the north.

UK Outlook for Saturday 26 Apr 2008 to Monday 5 May 2008:

The southeast of the United Kingdom is likely to start Sunday with dry and warm conditions, but rain and cloud will soon push eastward. Elsewhere will be cloudy at times with showers or longer spells of rain. Unsettled conditions are then expected to persist through next week, with rain or showers at time, but also occasional sunny breaks. Driest and brightest conditions are likely to be in the east, with the possibility of some heavy rain in the west at times. Temperatures will steadily fall through the week to a little below normal, with an increasing risk of night frost, particularly in the north. By the end of next week and the start of the following week, there is some indication that more settled conditions may become established.

UK Outlook for Monday 28 Apr 2008 to Wednesday 7 May 2008:

The outlook for much of this forecast period is rather unsettled with few, if any signs of summer arriving. The first week is likely to be dominated with low pressure sitting close to, or even over the British Isles. This is likely to bring rain or showers to many areas, heavy at times, and perhaps still wintry over the mountains of Scotland. Temperatures are likely to be around or a little below normal for the time of year. Thereafter, into the weekend and the following week, it looks set to remain generally unsettled and showery, though towards the end of the period there is a slight hint of drier, and warmer conditions for southwestern parts.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 30 Apr 2008 to Friday 9 May 2008:

The outlook for much of this forecast period continues with the unsettled theme to the weather across the United Kingdom. Low pressure is expected to dominate conditions through the first half of the outlook period, as it continues to be located close to the British Isles. This is likely to bring showers or longer outbreaks of rain, with the heaviest falls of rain likely across western coasts and hills. Temperatures are expected to be around or a little below normal for the time of year. Through the rest of the outlook period it looks likely to become less unsettled and a little warmer too. Southern and eastern parts of the United Kingdom look likely to see the driest and warmest of the weather during this latter spell of the outlook.

UK Outlook for Thursday 1 May 2008 to Saturday 10 May 2008:

Low pressure is expected to dominate conditions through the first half of the outlook period, as it continues to be located close to the British Isles. This is likely to result in showers or longer spells of rain, these turning heavy at times. There is also the risk of strong winds around exposed coasts through Thursday and Friday as it remains cool for the time of year. However, through the weekend the south and east of Britain may become drier and warmer. During the rest of the outlook period it looks likely to become increasingly settled and drier as pressure builds across the United Kingdom. It should also become rather warm away from coasts, where onshore breezes and some mist patches are likely.

UK Outlook for Friday 2 May 2008 to Sunday 11 May 2008:

Friday is likely to be showery across all parts with some heavy and thundery bursts at times. Meanwhile, more persistent rain is forecast to push eastwards across the UK on Saturday, with some heavy rain possible, most likely across Wales and southwest England. On Sunday and into next week, northern and western parts of the UK can expect to stay showery, perhaps with occasional longer spells of rain, whilst southern and eastern areas are likely to see some fine weather with sunny spells, although a few showers may still push across, especially on Sunday. Rather windy at times in the west, especially this coming Saturday. Temperatures are expected to be around normal to rather warm generally, and perhaps becoming warm in any fine weather across the south and east later.

UK Outlook for Saturday 3 May 2008 to Monday 12 May 2008:

Mainly cloudy with showers and spells of rain across western parts of the UK this weekend, with some heavy bursts possible. More eastern areas should be brighter and rather warm, but perhaps with some heavy, thundery showers. Northern and western parts of the UK can expect to stay rather unsettled next week with further showers, and perhaps occasional longer spells of rain. Temperatures there will be around normal. Further south and east should be drier and rather warm with some fine, sunny spells, however there will still be a risk of some heavy, thundery showers. The east coast may turn rather cool and cloudy though with an easterly wind developing. Rather windy at times in the west, especially this coming Saturday.

UK Outlook for Sunday 4 May 2008 to Tuesday 13 May 2008:

It will be mostly cloudy to start the period with outbreaks of rain in the west, sometimes heavy, gradually extending throughout, after a generally bright start in the east. The rain is likely to retreat westward during Monday, with many eastern areas, and some far western parts, becoming dry with periods of sunshine. The weather is expected to become largely settled as next week progresses, particularly in the north, although there may be some rain in western areas at first and areas of cloud about eastern coasts. Temperatures should be near normal to warm in central and southern parts at first, with warmer conditions in the west later next week. Conditions are likely to remain fairly settled through the following weekend and into the next week.

not much else could be said really with signs of blocking to the north and the major 500mb trough looking like taking up residence somewhere west of the UK. Fine detail on whether its a flow from ne, e or se but that is the main concern I would suggest as events are developing.

My lrf will need some revision for the second week I think but I'll decide that this evening.

UK Outlook for Monday 5 May 2008 to Wednesday 14 May 2008:

The outlook period will start rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain, which are likely to be locally heavy and possibly thundery. There may be some brighter or sunny areas, these most likely in the southeast, and possibly in the far west. Drier conditions should spread westward into central parts during Tuesday. For the remainder of next week, eastern areas are expected to be mainly dry, although North Sea coasts may see some cloud. In the west, and particularly the southwest, it should remain cloudier with rain or showers at times, perhaps thundery. Temperatures during the week are expected to be near normal, perhaps a little warmer in central parts. Conditions are likely to become fairly settled through the following weekend and into the subsequent week.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 6 May 2008 to Thursday 15 May 2008:

The outlook for much of this forecast period is set to be dominated by high pressure to the north of the United Kingdom, and lower pressure to the south, bringing winds from the east. During the first week, any showery rain in the south should move away then all parts will be dry with some sunshine, though eastern coasts may be plagued by mist and fog at times. Over the weekend and into the following week, the general situation stays similar, with a good deal of dry weather, though there is perhaps an increased threat of a few thundery showers, particularly in southern and southwestern parts. Temperatures are likely to be above average, especially in the west, though cooler at times in the mist and fog near the east.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 7 May 2008 to Friday 16 May 2008:

The outlook for much of this forecast period is set to be dominated by high pressure to the north of the United Kingdom, and lower pressure to the south. Any rain in the North and West will clear away into Thursday. Then the rest of the period will see the Easterly wind bringing in a good deal of cloud, though equally some breaks are likely. Although dry weather will dominate there is the risk of some thundery rain cropping up in the South around next weekend. Temperatures generally on the warm side, especially in the South and the West where it could be locally very warm during the first few days. Eastern facing coasts a little cooler with the onshore breezes dominating.

UK Outlook for Thursday 8 May 2008 to Saturday 17 May 2008:

The Outlook is set to be dominated by high pressure to the north of the United Kingdom, lower pressure away to the east, west and south. Through the period the high slowly drifts further away towards Greenland, allowing low pressure to edge in to the south, and the flow to become northeasterly. Although dry weather dominates, with some decent spells of sunshine, there is the risk of thundery showers developing, especially across southern areas, and this threat of thundery rain or showers increases with time. The other change will be in temperatures, generally on the warm side at first across the south and west, where it could be locally very warm at times, but expected to return towards nearer normal.

happy with the direction they are taking in the longer term, cooling down but sensibly being cautious about the extent.
