There has been very little extra snow here today and it is currently sunny (has been for 15 minutes) and the clouds seem to have subsided at present, out 3-4cm is melting.

Very similar scenes here Brian. Really think 10cm is a possibility now before the band moves in... add another 10-15 from the band, that's over 20cm.

Yes, it's certainly going to be interesting stuff this evening Dave. I should really get a couple of hours sleep to recharge my batteries.

I shouldn't have stayed up all lastnight, but I couldn't resist.

The last thing I want to do is fall asleep this evening and then miss all the action

Is the huge mass shown in the North Sea/over Norfolk due to hit us?

I think the approaching depression will start manhandling the showers a bit before the main body of ppn arrives. The stuff that was showers over the Wash has now started being pushed more our way instead of to the west (as far as I can see) and I expect the stuff coming in from Hull, north, will follow suit soon but ,what the hey!, look what comes after the showers!!!! :)

The Sun came out, so I did too...but only in the garden; I can't find my boots.

Nice pics Oon, Asby looks very pretty. Noticed lack of drifting. Gusting well over 40 mph at times drifting as you would expect. Looking forward toinght event, heavy snow plus a strong wind will make things interesting.

My mum and dad over in Murton say they've got 6ft drifts in their garden because of a mini-helm last night.
Great pictures OON, I love the third one
That's the kids' school. Must be hard for them!

Yeah I imagine the winds are very strong in Brough/Stainmore area it will probably snowiest area of the NW. Very sensible to keep the A66 closed for today at least. Last thing that needs to happen to get hundreds of people trapped up there tonight.

Not a scratch on the 1991 event so far here. I seem to have avoided alot of the showers and when they do arrive they don't last long enough. But the main reason is that is just not as cold. I remember -2 during the snow in 1991, whereas its about 0 during the showers now.

Lets see what tonight brings.

Just watched the Met office spokesman on the 1.00 pm news saying they are especially concerned at a possible half a metre of snow for Pennine areas tonight !!! It's snowing heavily again - we seem to be getting a heavy shower about every 30 mins now. Temperature risen to -2.2C - warmest it's been all day so far.

Yaaay, it's snowing again for the first time in 2 whole hours!!

Considering there has been wall to wall sunshine since midday there has been surprisingly little melt.

Yep, 50cm not out of the question I would say...

Hopefully 20cm here on the edge of the Pennines, bringing our grand total to nearly 30cm.

Good afternoon, the meto radar is showing an area of precipitation in the s/w midlands and it is intensifying as you look at it.The more northward movement the stronger it becomes.quite a night for the north midlands and above awaits.
