Yeah, the showers are definitely becoming more persistant.

Up to 8cm now.

Met Office has put areas of Yorkshire and Humber under RED "TAKE ACTION"

According to my mother, about 4-5cm in Cleadon at 9am, but it will be more than that now, as the snow showers are really piling in. As far as easterlies go this is easily up with the best of them in the post-February 1991 era.

Heavy snow for past 2 hours on and off, with couple of thunder storms thrown in for good measure. Last night was first time i've seen lightning during a snow storm. Amazing.

Couple of pics showing a school closure and my poor frozen fish pond. Feels like they have been frozen in most of the winter.

Quick pic or two from my first foray out into our Yorkshire winter wonderland. Shows how drifts are already building up on the lane.

Will be out for a proper stroll later, should hopefully find some interesting snaps.

Just had a quick look at the 06z - this wintry weather could possibly last for the next seven days (!!!) with a couple of heavy falls during that time - could well finish up being one to remember alongside '79, and '82, and in terms of snowfall surpassing '87, '91 and '96 - how good is that

About half an hour ago i had to switch computer off, reason being we had THUNDERSNOW, [did anyone else hear this] it was definately thunder because i was outside trying to clear snow from my car, then it started snowing again

That's great :)

We had a rumble of thunder last night at about 01:30 in the morning, with a flash of lightning. Very unusual :)

Mainly sunny atm with the occasional snow flurry. Some of the lying snow has melted in the sunshine, but there

should be plenty left for when the real stuff arrives this evening.

Latest picture is of Miss graupel skiving off school

Very similar scenes here Brian. Really think 10cm is a possibility now before the band moves in... add another 10-15 from the band, that's over 20cm.
