I agree - radar suggests we should be getting some precipitation but nothing reaching the ground. Dew points have dropped significantly in the last few hours and Richard Angwin (BBC South West) seemed pretty certain the rain would 'readily' turn to snow as it moved inland. It seems to me that the rain moving north is fragmenting as it moves over the channel, certainly very little significant rain sleet or snow for some time yet. Still have decent snow cover here.

same here

the sleet layer is WELL past us here in Maesteg, but nothing is falling on my APD ( advanced precipitation detector )

actually, it's my bald head, but it does a damn good job!

Haha nope nothing here either. only proves that the radar is something that gives you a rough idea and isn't set in stone like some like to believe.

The APD is a fantastic innovation - am hoping to obtain one in a few years......

Ok the will it will it not debate

The fronts are moving alittle further north by 12z today compared till forecast 24hours agopost-5585-1233758532_thumb.jpgpost-5585-1233758546_thumb.jpg

On midnight tonight forcast you can see Northern areas of the southwest get a good easterly compared to the forecast previous i have marked this change on the fax in blue

Ok so with a abit of sleety stuff first this is likely to become another snow event for many in northern counties in Southwst and southeastern wales northwards.

The 850s are still over midwales but the air will still be minus 3 or colder. Its the cooler air as it passes more land that allows the snow where on previous it took more southerly coming straight off channel.

Looking at the charts this evening, I think there is a better chance that West Wales will do well out of this, Precipitation seems far better than earlier charts.

it may be marginal on lower ground, I think we could do quite well, especially if temps are able to fall off overnight.

Light snow in east Devon but temperatures fairly high at 3.5C how come?

Is this due to the wind strength, inversion or low dew points with colder air aloth?

It rainned yesterday at 1C so I do not get this!?? :yahoo:

It depends from the temperature at higher altitudes and humidity as well. Not only from the temperature you see outside.

Just see the forecast for the the whole UK by John Hammond and looking very good tonight for snow here but by the looks of their graphics rain is to be had later in the day at a temperature of 0C. Interesting.

I really dislike their graphics.

I rdon't think they can be accurate enough to display this kind of detail and thus can cause confusion for people watching.

Id personally take what they show with a pinch of salt.

same here,

Just seen the latest forecast on the BBC and it looks very promising. Also plenty of precipitation forecast by the UKMO model to accompany it, at this rate the snow risk area may have to change.

perhaps it is falling, but evaporating before it reaches the ground?

is this a good, or bad thing?

very strange. precipitation is supposed to be well past us, but NOTHING at all is falling. Also, I can see the moon dead above me(through the clouds, very hazy). I remember seeing something similar before the big snow in 1982 too.

maybe........?

nah :D
