Alot of talk about polar lows Kayro, what are your views?

For me they are too difficult to forecast right now, but the potential is certainly there.

Hot*Snow

To be honest, polar lows are not my speciality. As Stephen says they are probably troughs in the making. Let's hope that one of those will head for our region in the next couple of days. We just need a slight shift to the wind.

Persistent light snow in Stoke again

hi Dave,

yes, my partner works in Biddulph and it is snowing lightly there after the snow they've had there last night/this morning. Still dry in Manchester.

Light snow is falling in areas west of Manchester but nothing significant. It seems to be dying out in general.

The GFS doesn't show any potential for a streamer unfortunately so all eyes on Sunday when a weather front is expected to move from the Irish sea. This looked like sweeping effortlessly west to east in yesterday's charts but newest data suggests it may struggle as it hit the cold air that will be sitting over us all those days hence the interest for snowfall.

Too early to tell with certainty, so it's a case of keeping an eye on the models.

rather a strange day - and I think it underlines the importance of timing where snow events are concerned. The Monday snow fall was over by midnight - gave the gritters more than enough time to clear the roads. Today saw a long spell of light, mainly granular snow from 8am til 1pm - enough to accumulate, but on busy roads, never settled. Elsewhere has seen similar falls, but it's the key 12-6am time that determines the chaos

lol, just looking at the radar, it says its snowing, but the precip must be extremely light in nature because I am seeing nothing at all, expect where it is wet from all the rain and sleet earlier today. Woke up this morning with a good inch or so of snow, but by 11 it was completely gone and all surfaces wet from the sleety rain mix.

Hopeful for a spot of snow tonight if that radar is right, its sitting right on our region. some nice dark echoes on the mid wales coast..on reflection it seems to just be sitting there stalled from what i can tell of the 2 hour radar lapse..hard to tell, but wow thats a lot of snow there

Temp is 0C exactly, dew point is 0C and windchill -3..unsure what what the current wet bulb temps are.

Interesting regarding Sunday's event, though still borderlie for me. IRight now I think lower level temps will be just too high and prevent the ppn falling as snow, falling mainly as sleet or rain. Higher levels as usual I think will benefit from this system.

However, it is early days and I am open to the idea that things will change, will be a case of seeing how things pan out on the day. We will be relying on things being very cold though.

Yep-skies clearing here i think we are in for a harsh frost tonight.

For those further NW who missed out today hopefully your turn will come sometime over the next 5 or 6 days UKMO is pretty awesome and pretty darn cold.

Anyone noticed the White Blobs over the NW At Midnight

On The BBC Website probably nothing to get to excited about

But may give a Dusting In Places.

Been snowing all day. However, could only be called moderate to heavy between 8 and 9.30 and again at 5.30. About 2 inches I guess has fallen today difficult to tell as it has fallen on top of the remaining snowcover from Monday of course. I would imagine there is more in the hills towards Buxton and maybe very little down the hill towards Alderley Edge/ Wilmslow

I keep looking at the meto radar and that precipitation is creeping towards us, does anyone think it will make it? I know its supposed to go south, but everything seems to be going north still.
