Cloud amounts are increasing to the west and getting closer.

Its just broken cloud, nothing wonderful. needs a bit of lift I'd say!

At the moment, it would fall as rain anyway here, currently 5.0C with a dewpoint of 1C

London get s dumped on, liverpool nothing and the same will be probably true of this..whats the chance of that snow from the nw heading our way for a low level dumping tonight, tomorrow and sunday? its like florida here in comparison to the rest of the country.

Current Temp 3.6C

Dew Point 0.C

Windchill -1C

I hope that temp really drops off, and we can get some nice heavy showers and the snow really does pile up..surely its our turn now the rest of the country have had theirs lmao

Spring is Sprung.

In Trafford Park at least, it's sunny and warm.

Andrew

Maybe if you're by a radiator! Barely 3c in Wythenshawe and it will start falling sharply soon,

as the sun goes down.

Temp stable at 3.6C

Dew Point -1C

Windchill -0C

Clear sunny skies, forecast tonight temps will fall away sharply in some places that are not affected by the passing snow showers to give a good ground frost. Snow likely over high ground tho low ground cant be ruled out with dropping temps overnight.

Sunday looks like the North West's best bet for some snow. There is around 10 of us tomorrow taking the kids Sledging as we don't have anything here. Were not too sure where to go, maybe the Pennines or Buxton, something like that. Anyone in those areas confirm there is snow??

Slight thaw of lying snow in MAcclesfield itself today in the balmy warmth of the 2.2C February sun. Still 100% snowcover though and temperature dropping steadily now. Would have thought there would be good sledging at Teggs Nose, if not keep heading towards Buxton and should be good. About 9 inches in the hills around Buxton today.

I'd wait for a top-up, only 2-3cm of lying snow left on the hills around here, unless your really brave and want to try Kinder Scout/Edale area, but the slopes there are really dangerous for sledging for children due to the steep inclines. The sun has melted much of what we had yesterday and all thats left is just the hardened crust of snow from the past 4 days thats not really fit for sledging on anyway.

Best to wait until the next snowfall event where its really powdery again and you'll get some decent sledging.

I am surprised you have so little snow left, plenty left here as you drive up out of the town, lots of people sledging as well.

worth noting that we had a rain shower before so anyone exposed to a NWly wind who is low down near the coast has little chance of much snow!

Well it's really dropping like a stone now -1.4°C which must be the snow cover helping for the first time, the past few nights have either been too cloudy or too breezy to drop very low.

temp 2.1°C from 3.6°C

Dew Point -1°C

Windchill -2°C

Outside observations show huge steel grey snow clouds...checked to see if it was broken, it was not broken and it's making slow progress to us. That cloud bank is snow not rain..just need a bit cooler temps..below 2°C but it was snowing heavily at 4°C the other day so I dont think that matters.

I reckon if you are at the coast you will probably get sleet, but since temps and dew point and windchill are now nicely coming down..think this could be something or maybe it wont do a thing lol

some reason checked the radar and it hasnt picked anything up..yet there is the unbroken cloud with big puffy whitish snow clouds mixed in

Hi,

yup can confirm we still have plenty of snow in Buxton :D . Plenty of sledging areas too! Try and head for Solomons temple (tower which overlooks Buxton) . I know there is loads up there as i look at it out of my office window, There is loads of places to sledge even in the town centre opposite the crescent

Good luck!!

Kind regards

The N.W of England have escaped most of the snow which other areas have had at various times during this week. The last hope in this declining cold spell is for some frontal snow late on Sunday before it changes to rain. A polar trough may bring some snow showers overnight Fri/Sat, mainly through the Cheshire gap, and by-passing Cumbria and most of Lancs.

This has been a rather strange cold spell without dominant blocking highs over Scandinavia or Greenland. Temp. at the moment -2.8C, if it begins to rise a bit would be a sign of some cloud coming in the northwest, otherwise could fall to -6.0C or thereabouts by dawn.

Plenty of snow on the hills, Buxton and the Moors are geographically higher in elevation than Whaley Bridge is however, here the village is in a "bowl" like-shape so were surrounded by high sided hills on all sides much like Buxton is so obviously the cooler air is higher while at lower levels the snow thaws out.

Not been to Buxton during this cold-spell sadly so I havent been able to get snow depths, im just going off estimates on the heights of the tops of the peaks around here which are about the same elevation as that as the peaks around the Goyt Valley.

Current temp in Buxton is -2.6'c at 19.18pm.

It's amazing what snow cover can do to the temps on a clear night, -4.3°C now, possibly -8°C by morning or is that being too optimistic?

I'd expect it to drop even further if it was -4.3'c already, if high clouds stay out of the area then I think -11'c could be quite expected by dawn.

I suppose that's possible, but it's been at this sort of temp at this time several times this winter and we haven't been lower than -8.3°C. What tends to happen is as soon as the sun sets it drops very quickly, then after about midnight it slows right down, however this time we do have substantial snow cover so who knows.

Northwesterly breeze at the moment, and temperatures not really falling.

Currently +2C! Amazing what the influence of the sea can do!

quiet in the Northwest tonight.

not surpising considering the hype followed by letdown rollercoaster much of the region has endured in the last week.

even in Pennine areas such as here the snow has been minimal compared to other parts of the country.

our 7 or 8 inches in the garden from earlier in the week is now down to 3 or 4 at the most.

considering that we were quite lucky in Rossendale, i can understand the frustration of you guys further west than ourselves.

however very cold night in prospect tonight.

already -4.5c so should be looking at minima of -7 if not lower.

forecast is even lower Saturday night into Sunday.

that would bode well for our forecast of snow on Sunday.

what could possibly go wrong?

we would either end up with a sudden change of front direction, a break up of the front over ourselves only for it to intesify again after crossing the Pennines or the mother of all warm sectors to move in just before the blizzard of the millenium was due to strike.

not sure which one will happen, but the way our luck in being part of the worst winter for a generation is going at present, there is more chance of my beloved Burnley still having two trips to Wembley and winning the pair.

Brr it's bloomin cold tonight! Just wondering if we're going to get some showers through the Cheshire gap tonight, the 6:30pm weather report seemed to think so but we'll see. Hopefully we'll wake up to a dusting tomorrow.
