Just got back from work after a frustrating day stuck at work in Consett. Hardly a drop of rain there. I could see the black clouds and flashes to the east over towards home.

The Fedex driver at our place said one of their drivers saw a 'twister' in Stanley. Probably just a funnel but still a bit gutted I couldn't get closer to the storm.

The showers on the radar are going in all directions now, I think the centre of the low must be close. I've got a timelapse going, the cloud movements could be interesting.

Just been on local news about a tornado in Great Ayton, which is near Middlesbrough. Also a tornado or funnel at Holy Island in Northumberland yesterday.

Can quite believe the courier driver seeing something over Stanley today.

Also had flooding around parts of Newcastle and Gateshead, and some delays on the trains due to lightning strikes.

A good splattering of colour on the Netweather detector today <_<

EDIT: What Carl saw could have been what was spotted at Stanley. Very exciting wish i'd seen it!

Not scrolled back yet

Just got in from work and boy what a active afternoon we have had today> Started kicking off around 1250 this afternoon, lasted until around 1410hrs. In that period i counted around 15 loud rumbles of thunder, at its peak i was counting a rumble every 3 minutes, then itn started raining , ive never seen rain like that before, it was like a monsoon, torrential rain at times, Ive gust got back home from work , and my weather station recorded 16.6mm rain in that period,

Looks like it could kick off again

nigel

Was passing the Angel of the North on the A1 around 13:30 and to the left (over the hills) saw a funnel forming for a tornado. Didn't last long and had collapsed by the time we reached Team Valley.

Was intense thunder and lightning and a wall of water. Continued over Washington until at least 17:00 although it had lost a lot of its potency.

Spitting with rain here but there's a big line of showers to my west. Doubt they will make it here though.

Looks like that might be it for today around here at least,

radar & satellite show a broad clear slot in the lows circulation

A line of shower prehabs thundery are moving across the Irish Sea in a westly direction over South Wales Valleys, Swansea, Carmathenshire and Pembrokshire seem to be missing Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan at the moment.
