Not sure what to think about the thunderstorm that has erupted across N France in the last hour! Shows that despite the sun setting, the trough is having the ability to erupt Cb's. Whether it will have the same effect when/if it moves over the Southern half of the UK later....eyes down! :)

Nice new cell just popped over Northern France. Looks like it could be quite potent. Just proving that the environment is currently conducive for more MCS type convection tonight hopefully.

Because a tiny cell half the size of my little finger nail has popped up on the radar?

I would go watch a movie or something, or paint dry. No storms tonight my friend.

Just noticed the 9 p.m. radar, you can just make out some green on the eastern edge of London.

2nd rumble just now. Have had a really stubborn headache all day, better than any forecast!

Regards,

Tom

Hi jshaw,

Have you heard anything your way, thunder seemed to be just north-east of here.

Regards,

Tom.

Hi lucida,

We've had 5 rumbles altogether but none for about 15 mins. 9.30 radar shows 2 very small cells on northern and eastern edge of London.

Regards,

Tom.

typical! :nonono:

it must have something to do with the UHI effect? The cell exploded right over C London by the looks of things.

UHI or not, I work in London and live in the country, if I could work in my area I would, London is just TOO busy.

Wait till you come to Norfolk, watch the sense of humour, dry is an understatement, great bunch of people, I went to UEA 74-77, never left Norfolk since

Hi nanu,

As you know, I'm only a short bus ride away from you and we had similar. My headache has finally eased and so has the rain.

It really was a blink and you'll miss it affair.

Regards,

Tom.

Big difference here , i can actually see my breath outside against the lights... Plus the sea fog is coming in making it foggy in the distance

What a poor day :nonono:

I guess it's time for a reality check. Chances were only ever low and those were for scattered thunderstorms and only then in the extreme SE. There is still of course some time to go, but my real surprise has been that we have had no rain yet (was expecting something substantial). So, it's mid-September and beyond the 'sweet-spot' for storms. I guess we may be getting beyond the season and it's time for us extreme weather junkies to start looking toward the Winter and the 'will it snow in' posts. :nonono:

A degree of promise today, but the French have had the action again, already looking forward to 2010!
