its approx. about 2-3C.. didn't you get that snow shower just then? The temperature should make things less marginal later yep

Snow has stopped for the moment and its 0.4c.

uhmm the wind driection has changed from westerly to a more north westerly direction. When this happend thats when the temps started to rise now at 0.2c and the snow is now fizzling down.

PPTN on coast has exploded as it moves inland, heading this way. Here's a pic from about an hour ago.

This is the main road from the centre of Manchester to Bury, usually very busy, but completely covered in snow!

In Lancaster, have had nothing really for the past three hours, all the precip is Skirting to the North, A thaw has set in here as well, Paths and cars beginning to reappear. Looking out over the radar to see if the current precip to the North and East of The Isle of Man can make it here. Temperature now 2.3C, needs to get down! A really biting wind however.

What do we think about the temperatures/Dew points? Will they fall generally as the day wears on and the sun goes down? Or is it purely down to local variations and distance from the coast? Thanks

CL

It looks like it will be very marginal indeed around Lancaster. This afternoon showers will be a wintry mix because of the wind picking up off Morecambe Bay. Over the next three days winds will be much lighter, so there will be less of a warming effect near the coast, but the airmass will be less cold. Probably a fair amount of wet snow that struggles to settle at Lancaster is the most likely assessment, with rain/sleet further out towards the coast, and a sizeable snow cover over the hills just to the east of Lancaster.

It missed me the shower, Leasowe went a little white on the cam and visibility was 0 at one point.

I imagine later on though the showers will tend to move their influence north so we may not have as much joy

well this is a belter biggrin.gif - visibility down to <50m, constant medium to heavy snow falls - it's not only accumulating on pavements and side roads, but on the main roads as they do not appear to have gritted them . Driving is becoming tricky ifyou have 2WD and just got back into hear the local forecaster offering a warning of continued heavy snow up til 10pm

Christmas is early this year lol

Hi , The freezing level is lower and the convective cells that produce the snow showers produce a downdraft of cold air. Although the temperature atlowest layers may have been warmed by the sun it will not stop the snow from melting. Yesterday evening had a layer of warmer air embedded in the flow that produced the rain and sleet. Today you are in the unstable cold sector.Hope this helps a little.

C

Your hypothesis was correct , we've had a really heavy snow shower here and the temp went from 2.6c to 1.3c in a matter of minutes...

Cheers TWS much appreciated. I've heard Scotforth over the M6 is getting quite a bit, so this figures.

Anything we get here I see as a bonus usually - My hopes lie with the temperatures falling later on and picking up on some precipitation post 6pm, The met office seem to go with this IMBY. http://www.metoffice...st_weather.html

This may be 'out of date' by now though...

Currently Light Rain, 2.0C.
