Rain Today shows the showers off south coast as sleet/hail. Hope they turn to snow :yahoo:.

As soon as they arrive in South West England though, they turn to snow.

The wind has turned more westerly now and the clouds/showers are ever so slowly coming further towards me, hope they don't take too much longer to get here!

If it snows tonight, i'm going out in it as you never know it might be the only snow we see for a while lol.

Lol sounds like a good idea, i just hope now it doesn't take to long for the wind to change to a southwesterly and the showers to come right in overhead... not sure how long we will have to wait though

About 10-11pm the winds should become more SWly so the showers should start making their way inland then. However if you're near the coast you may just get rain/sleet... a few miles inland could make all the difference.

A shower has just skimmed Llanwit Major and it turned to snow over the land.

There is hope!

Come on wind.

The wind has changed to a SW-SSW direction, although it's being a bit erratic at the moment. :D

ITV Wales weather giving wintry showers to north and west Wales tonight. Likely to be rain in south / south east coasts

However, Cardiff Wales airport reporting snow

Ok thats not so bad i guess, and im about 5 miles inland from the coast, so hope it does snow here rather than sleet, as it normally does when wintery showers come in from the coast

Just looked on the radar, it is snow over Cardiff Airport/Barry.

Rain Today shows the sleet turning to snow over the land:

they're still traveling slightly south so are gonna miss Cardiff but who knows the next ones might just be further north and when the wind changes things should improve even more

Just watch the centre of the low on the meto radar - as it comes further and further south down from scotland so the winds will shift to a more advantageous position

Plenty of showers now in the channel on meto radar - just need that change of wind direction now

Just to confirm my weather station is showing winds at SW at the moment.

Oh well, showers don't seem to wanna play ball then although xc weather has one or two stations showing sw wind in mid Wales but on the coast at the moment it's still a westerly

Well the wind on ground can blow in a different direction to that in the air. Anyway, few hours now and it should start to dig in...

A minimal skimmery skimming last night ,which barely looked like more than a deep frost is as good as its got so far for me.

I decided not to attack the lampost last night after its no snow show.

Most places have had a reasonable blast so i want some now!!!

The lampost has until late Tuesday evening ,and it must show at least 20 consecutive minutes of thick fast flakes, otherwise this lampost will shine no more.

Slim chance this evening i guess but what you folks think for next few days??

How long can we realistically expect this cold blast to last, before we return to the monotony of South Westerly shmizzly drizzly left trouser legy grey 8 degree crap??

Sleet in the Vale OF G. Temperture 3c. Few miles inland i.e. the northern Suburbs of Cardiff should be seeing snow from anything that comes ashore. Maybe the Grangetown, City Centre area will just see rain.

Winter's only just begun - seems we may need slightly lower temps to guarantee us snow on the south coast - they should and will probably come with the next bout/s of cold we get in Jan or Feb and this cold blast we have now will help set the scene for colder incursions later in the winter. This is still not over mind and things are chopping and changing all the time + we still have a shot at something this week I think as the atlantic trys to take back control of our weather
