Well must admit its stopped raining now.

Sky looks brighter.....think the so called hevay rain has passed through.

And for the record....

No snow alog the M4 corridor.

BBC showed snow across Wales and rain everywhere else..spot on. Showed this well on their graphics last night.

There is much more PPN across the East than the West now.

Just starting to get big fat flakes of snow here! Temp is now 3.1c. But not holding my breath

for anything to come of it as I've just watched the local forecast on BBC1 and they have said

RAIN all the way and the snow event for New Year's day has 'disapeared' (her words not mine).

Looks like this new cold spell won't be happening at all

Has been sleety rain here in Winterbourne, with large wet snowflakes mixed in. Like Ian says, it should be snow on higher ground.

(Edit, just looked at the car and slush has settled towards the bottom of the windscreen) laugh.gif

ps think I'm about 80m ASL

Still sleet however it is getting lighter now and turning less sleety. Does seem to be a rather short lived with lighter patchy rain behind this.

temp 2.9c

Please people, can anyone answer my question.

Is this all supposed to slip back south again later?

I think it is meant to slip south east later on and kinda pivot slightly round as it does with ppn staying with us but probably being on the lighter side. Heavy ppn seems to move through mid/south wales into west midlands, glouc and then down towards bucks way.

Just for information - i've just driven back down to Wiltshire from Telford on the M5/M4 and nothing that even resembled a snowflake the whole journey. Lowest temps on the car temp guage was 3C and that was on the M4 between Bristol and Bath where the weather at least trying to turn wintry with some vague sleet, but mostly rain the whole journey. Temps north of Bristol didn't get below 4-5C the entire journey.

Thats what I thought until I heard about BLIZZARDS in Cardiff , I think it is 9 Miles across the Sea from Weston to Cardiff. I expect Brean Down may see something from this.

Thank you Fiona.

Just goes to show 'a non event for the whole country, unless you live high up in a Welsh Valley'

Its passed through here. Not heavy.

Certainly not the rainfall amounts that NW were predicting but I suppose that's one of the hardest bits to forecast. I will say though the pretty much all the precipitation falling is sleet now and temp is going down, albeit very slowly. Currently at 2.1C from a high of 2.7C.

Yes, mainly sleet. But looking at the radar, not much coming our way now.

Well, there's a surprise! I knew it! As soon as everyone starts talking about a big freeze, best synoptics for years, blah! blah! Including some of the main 'players' on the NW forum - they should've known better. wallbash.gif
