And still it continues! I'm blown away with the amount of snow this has produced :unknw:

I never expected it hanging around here like it has.

Temps:

current: -0.4ºc (highest today was 0.3ºc @ 6:40am, lowest -0.5ºc @ midnight)

DP is currently -1.54ºc

It's still falling moderate to heavy, with medium size flakes (not powder at the moment). coming up to 7 inches, and rising!

Some photos for you (plus my ubiquitious snowy trees photo )

Yep, looking quite promising out to the North East already. Could be a very treacherous evening/morning

when it freezes too.

the temp is below freezing here mate and the snow continues to fall :unknw: could be an all nighter tonight

Just got back in from a drive around, and conditions aren't as bad as Local radio is suggesting, imo.

Heard someone say on the radio that they'd had 4 inches of snow in Norton (near Malton) I decided to have a look for myself and found what appeared to be around two cms :unknw:

Take a drive towards Leeds , you'll easily see 4 inches cover !

Shame they can't be suspended permanently :(

Seriously, though, it's great to hear all these snow reports. It's turning into a fantastic cold spell :(

Latest NAE has the band fizzling out around midnight with a further 1cm to 2cm possible in some areas. Snow showers are likely to follow on behind.

sure s Brian

I decided to clear some snow-well as a 70 year old I needed an excuse to go out in the snow-its still snowing by the way-that is 7 hours so far.

I got round to measuring the snow in different areas, on a hard flat surface folks, just like I asked you.

Dustbin lid=7cm

back door step=8cm

patio decking now up to 9.5cm

back path=11cm

various places on front drive and roadway outside my drive showed between 12 and 15cm.

To some of you characters that live half way up English mountainsides that may not seem all that much.

Take it from me I suspect its about the highest in over 70 years records for this area-if not the top then in the top 3. I'll root out a latter I sent a Station Commander years ago at RAF Finningley in which I quoted the highest totals since it opened in 1942-3.

Unusual and its only the start boys and girls-the snow will last for days-slight thaws in the sun and bone chilling frosts at times overnight. Then we may get lucky again and have further snow showers-that is if this lot ever stops.

Exciting times for sure for all snow and cold lovers. Anyone in the S Yorks, Derbyshire, W Yorks area, after today who thinks this is till an ordinary winter in these parts needs a specialist in my view.

found it

I was wrong-not the first time that has happened.

23cm on 14 January 1987

19cm on 21 December 1981

16cm between 1-3 January 1963.

8 instances of 15cm so need about 3cm more today to get joint 3rd ever highest.

The longest snow cover was 26 days (half or more cover at 09z) 3-28 January 1963.

I'm not too keen on those chart for my area, Mark. It's looking pretty good for you though

TBH , I dont know of any schools that are Open , BBC radio Leeds said this morning they were going to mention schools that were open instead of closed because the closed list was too huge !

I also know a member of staff here at work has also been informed his son's school has already decided they are closed for tomorrow.

They will under play showers so i would expect a lot of surprises, also what ever falls out of the sky will be snow.

I expect you will have more on the ground by the end of the week John?

There have been over 125 school closures in Kirklees alone and many are expected to stay shut tomorrow. Schools now have a policy of not removing any snow or ice to prevent any "where there's blame there's a claim" parents suing if their little tinkerbell falls on a partially cleared path.

Not cleared at all = school not liable

Attempted clearance = school liable

John, I know a few days in weather terms is a long time, but upto this weekend can you see there being anymore significant snow like everyones experienced today?

I shall take some measurements for you again in 5 minutes when I've just finished this bit of work.....unfortunately I have a laptop for work so I will never be able to get a day off work due to snow anymore! Working from home does have its bad points! wallbash.gif

Being asked if we want to go home from work early!!!!!!!!!

Don't want the 13 miles to turn into 2 hours again like this morning

My 5 year old has been out sledging all afternoon but can't wait for me to build a snowman in the garden.

Excellent weather today even though it does slow everything down.......

Yeah, I was surprised to learn that the Designer Outlet, which is on the outskirts of York, was closed today

They mentioned that it was for health and safety reasons. Apparently, the car park has spaces for 2,700+

Thursday is looking interesting with the risk of more organised showers effecting our region. Before hand and risk of snow showers tomorrow. I would certainly keep an eye on Thursday though...
