Wow, thats a fair bit you have had there :drinks:

I think we've had 3-4 inches but haven't a clue where the ruler has gone - last seen disappearing into teenage son's bedroom, too dangerous to venture in there looking for it.....

A bit of a sleety snow mix in Ferndown, Dorset tonight.. with enough snow in the heavier bursts to give a decent dusting here! Interesting that Hurn has reported rain for most of the evening and that's at a similar low altitude just 2 miles away (towards the coast admittedly).

Was that table empty of snow before tonight? shok.gif Or is that a top up in there onto the older stuff?

Nothing like that here although looks similar ppn on the radar all night.

Fast but very small flakes most of the time - hope that the heavier ppn to the SW keeps its intensity for later.

Snowfall last tues night/wed morn was great quality dry stuff that's still here today. Tonights snow not such good qual, but welcome all the same.

I know exactly what you mean by this as the snow ratio on fri night was fantastic over here. Even just a 20 min period of heavy snow gave an excellent covering.

If anyone is wondering what the hell on about then click on the link below. Simply put the lower the temps/dewpoints the higher the ratio of snow thus meaning less rainfall is required to give a good covering of snow. I imagine the snow ratio is around 5:1 at the moment but when we we're experiencing the much colder temps the ratio would of been between 10:1 - 20:1 depending on local conditions.

BBC News24 forecast just now showed snow in our area until about 6 in the morn.

EDIT: Amazing really. Been persistent snow for about 6 hours on and off here, some heavier bursts, but prob only an inch or so on top of lying snow! In that respect a little disappointing! Sorry, i'm really getting fussy now!

No, it's not all from today, it's been topped up since about 5pm - about 3-4 inches from this spell of snow.

Well, that's me done for the night. A pretty good one, although disappointed we've only had an inch or so top-up from 6 hours of persistent snow!

Still, i dread to think what next winter will be like if it's mild and wet!!

Sounds good! So with what we've had already and hopefully a little heavier than our lightish stuff at the moment - I'd say we could get to around 5cm fresh stuff by then. Might be enough to keep me out of work and go out for another long walk in it all tomorrow. (I know its not the same for everyone - especially those having a hard time economically - but I still get paid if work itself closes yahoo.gif - and they usually do if the buses are struggling - UWE)

Like you said earlier - really can't grumble - been an excellent winter so far and still only early January!
