At the moment, I do not think there will be much snow. Hit and miss for certain areas in the SE.

What about over the weekend? could we be in for some or do you think it will be just very cold and dry? Thanksdrinks.gif

So far, the weekend does look dry. Sunny and cold during the day and colder with frost by night.

Very quiet in here, so thought i would post my thoughts for today and the upcoming weekend on the snow potential.

Today

Well using the GFS 06z run we have a small chance of seeing some snow between the times of 2-8pm. This will be very light and be most likley wet snow/sleet. The further east and north you are the greater the chance of seeing snow.

In the far east of kent you could see snow showers from this evening onwards.

However looking at the current radar image the rain band seems to be dying so the ppn may die away before the colder air mixes with it as it travels south

Saturday

Saturday looks like a very dry cold day with lots of sunshine. Again the east side of Kent could see snow showers at any point in the day.

Sunday

It looks as though the north westerly winds will pick up and will move showers into our region

post-10842-12647702149588_thumb.png

these showers will be light and shortlived but will be of snow.

post-10842-12647702892388_thumb.png

The GFS is not the best model with regards to picking up ppn. In this kind of setup within 24 hours bands or showers can form which could push further inland. so this information my change within this 48 period.

He he!! Just finished reading your forecast, looked up and its snowing!!

Glad to hear that the cold air is pushing through fast. This rain/snow band seems to be fading away south. Still some nice showers in the east of our region though

post-10842-12647740377388_thumb.png

looks like a polar low off the north east of Scotland which is running south. The Meto have issued warnings for E.A but looking at the projected winds they dont seem favourable for us

What is a polar low?

its a low pressure system coming in from the artic behind this cold artic air pushing against the warm air (polar front)

storm force had a great pic of it showing the centre. though this looks like it has caved in now. they never last long.

Guest North Sea Snow Convection

Snow here too just now. Started as rain and sleet and then got heavier turning to snow. Just stopped, but stayed as snow so the colder drier air has obviously just arrived
