Earthquake activity has picked up a lot in SW Iceland again. If it increases further we may be looking at a renewal of eruptive activity.

Fairly busy this evening as well. Looking at the cones building up there should be another collapse soon like we had previously.

Sounds like Campi Flegri is beginning to wake from it's slumber, and given the rate of ground deformation over the past 2 years it's likely a precursor to a small/mid-sized phreatomagmatic eruption than a huge caldera collapse although this area of Naples does tend to see extreme fluctuations in ground deformation over many decades without anything occurring other than housing structural damage.

If the current uplift trend continues however then it's soon going to be on-par with the 1982 caldera instability which caused many thousands to be temporarily evacuated.

The area around the Campi Flegrei (Phlegraean Fields) volcano, which last erupted in 1538, has been the scene of increased seismic activity in recent days...

If you can read Italian https://www.ov.ingv.it/index.php/monitoraggio-e-infrastrutture/bollettini-tutti/boll-sett-flegrei/2023/1336-bollettino-flegrei-2023-10-03/file

However the graphs tell the story.

Interesting thing is when Vesuvius goes quiet activity tends to switch to Campi Flegri.

Earthquake activity has been pulsing quite a bit lately however not the constant high level there was before the previous eruptions

Very lively in SW Iceland over 4000 earth quakes today. However they reckon it isn't magma causing this just stresses due to the inflation going on at Fagradalsfjall. However I'm still expecting an eruption in the next 8 weeks.

As of Nov 1st there are currently 3 areas on the Reykjanes Peninsular that are undergoing inflation since Oct 28th, two close to Litli-Hrutur and more notably this one near Þorbjörn which is NW of Grindavik and only a few hundred meters away from the Blue Lagoon. Inflation has increased so much over the past few days that Icelandic Authorities have now put it under a 'yellow' unrest and given the magma is intruding only 1.5km beneath it's certainly one to watch.

I've noticed the camera has been moved towards the power station. Good job the power station isn't nuclear. Lava v Power station only one winner followed by a huge bang and widespread radiation. Got me wondering if there are any countries have been stupid enough to build a nuclear power station on a previously active volcanic field. We know one example where tsunamis weren't taken properly into account.
