So are they just going to fly around in circles till they run out of fuel, its clear they are not going to be able to land! Unless that flight from Canada decides to hover around heathrow until it runs out of fuel in which its forced to land there! Seems its only BA landing in the UK, seen an easy jet land at Luton though. Might have been a "test flight"

A logistical nightmare for ATC having to watch these flights hold.

I don't see why it should be really? They're used to many more flights in the sky and presumably BA will just land them all in Shannon.

EDIT - Miami flight is descending into Shannon too.

May be a risk assessment of a risk assessment.

I would land them and then write a book all about it.

Sorry land them get the sack then write a book...

Never seen anything so stupid in my life.

If the powers to be aren't careful air traffic control will be under the control of the air lines.

And the skies are clear from all jets once more!

Two seem to be heading fore Ireland airport (even though the airspace is apparently closed) while two seem to be holding

BA are defiantly testing the stance .. I notice the Lagos flight has decided to turn away from the UK as soon as it hit the channel ...

Ash, I'd say.

White out now at Hvolsvelli!Hope for the sake of the people in the farms there that is snow and not ash. Looks a bit light colour for ash there though.

Although looking again the sky is a funny colour for snow.

Might have been the Air Transat due to land Gatwick . That got diverted a few hours when over the ocean and told to land at Newcastle.

The one over isle of man still going round and round. Hopefully there isn't any ash up there or the engines will be getting a battering.

Just amazing how much fuel BA are prepared to waste in a holding pattern over the Isle of Man .. others have diverted to Shannon but this flights seems intent on holding ..
