Wet and windy north, drier and brighter to the south

Wednesday

Some cloud and outbreaks of rain across northern Spain on Wednesday. Elsewhere the day should be bright with sunny spells. The Balearics should be fine too with some more spells of sunshine to come here. Bright across Greece, although Turkey will have showers. Strong winds and rain affecting the Low Countries and northern Germany. Heavy rain for Poland with strong winds here. Switzerland, Austria and Hungary Windy through Denmark with rain and showers. Windy again in the Baltic States with the chance of some heavy snow and rain. More rain to come in Sweden with strong winds and heavy showers across Norway.

Thursday

A fair day for most of Portugal and Spain on Thursday, although there will be some cloud and rain affecting the north. The western Mediterranean should be dry with some sunshine, whilst cloud and showers affect northern and central Italy. Sunny spells across Greece, but chilly over Turkey with a few showers. Cloud and rain affecting western and northern France. More wind and rain spreading through the Low Countries and into the north of Germany. Windy for Poland too. Thursday

A fair day for most of Portugal and Spain on Thursday, although there will be some cloud and rain affecting the north. The western Mediterranean should be dry with some sunshine, whilst cloud and showers affect northern and central Italy. Sunny spells across Greece, but chilly over Turkey with a few showers. Cloud and rain affecting western and northern France. More wind and rain spreading through the Low Countries and into the north of Germany. Windy for Poland too. Drier in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland with mild conditions here as well. Across northern Europe there will be strong winds through the UK and Ireland. Rain and winds affecting Denmark too. More wind and rain across the Baltic States, with some sleet and snow in Finland. Snow showers for the south of Sweden, but drier and brighter to the north. Sunny spells and a few snow showers across Norway too.

Friday

A fine day to come across Spain and Portugal today. There should be good spells of sunshine, the best in the east and south. More sunshine through the central Mediterranean and running into most of Italy too. However, northern Italy may have cloud and some drizzle. Greece will have a few showers inland, as will Turkey. Windy and wet for northern and western France. More cloud and rain to come across the Low Countries and northern Germany as well as Poland. Cloudy for Switzerland with the threat of some drizzle here. Low pressure over Scandinavia brings fair weather to Denmark. A few showers over western Norway with snow in the north. Dry for much of Sweden although snow may affect the far north. Cold across the Baltic States and Finland, again with the risk of snow showers.

Today

Bitterly cold with subzero maximum temperatures expected across Scandinavia into Russia. Windy day across northern parts of Europe. Looks quite wet across England, northern half of France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Poland with outbreaks of rain. A dry day to come across southern parts of France. Colder with outbreaks of heavy snow expected across Finland, the Baltic States, Russia and down across, Belarus and Ukraine. Cold and windy but dry and sunny weather is expected across Norway and Sweden. Some rain to come across Denmark. Overall, much of Spain and Portugal will be fair and dry with the sunniest weather in the south. Fine and dry as well across the Balearics into Corsica, Sardinia and most of Italy. Dry with sunny spells and cloud across the former Yugoslavia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. Western parts of Turkey will be dry but there is a risk of light to moderate snow across central eastern parts of Turkey. Windy today through the Mediterranean with gales expected in the west with heavy showers around Cyprus.

Outbreaks of snow are also forecast across Germany into eastern parts of France will become heavy over the Alps, across Austria. Expect outbreaks of rain across the Czech Republic into Croatia. The rest of the former Yugoslavia today will be cloudy but essentially dry. Western parts of the Ukraine have a mix of rain and snow with the east dry. Generally cloudy but essentially dry across Romania and Bulgaria. Expect most of Greece and Turkey to be dry with sunny spells. A cold northerly airflow blows rain, sleet and some snow southwards through France today.These cold northerly winds affecting Spain and Portugal too, with some rain or sleet over the northern coasts of Spain. Sunshine and dry to the south and east. More heavy showers in the Balearics, with some rain in southern Italy. Fair across Greece, but some cloud and drizzle in parts of Turkey. Unsettled for the Low Countries and Germany with cold weather here. This will be bringing some rain, sleet and snow at times. More sleet and snow showers for Austria and Hungary as well as Switzerland. Low pressure in Sweden brings cloud and some snow in central and northern Sweden. More snow through Finland with some snow showers in the Baltic States. Denmark sees sunny spells and some wintry showers, with further wintry showers across Norway.

Thursday

A chilly day again across Portugal and Spain. There will be good spells of sunshine here though, the best of it in the south. A chilly day again across Portugal and Spain. There will be good spells of sunshine here though, the best of it in the south. A cold day to come through the western Mediterranean with a risk of wintry showers through the Balearics. Low pressure across Italy brings rain, sleet and evening some snow to central areas, with heavy showers to the south. More cloud and rain across Greece and western Turkey, but drier to the east. France sees an area of snow showers slipping south through the country, together with strong winds. Staying cold through the Low Countries and Germany with frequent snow showers in the north. More cold weather for Poland where there could be snow showers too. Low pressure stays over southern parts of Scandinavia. This brings cloud and some outbreak of sleet and snow here. Further cloud and some snow in Finland. Drier for Norway and northern Sweden.

Friday

A cold day to come across Iberia on Friday. This brings some showers to northern parts of Spain, the best sunshine through southern areas. Cloud and outbreaks of rain over the far west. Most of France will be cold and dry with sunny spells. Cold through the western Mediterranean with some sunny spells but also some showers. Low pressure over the south of Italy gives more changeable weather here with some heavy showers. More low pressure across the Balkans giving some showers in Greece and Turkey. A cold day for Denmark with some snow showers. There could be further snow showers in the Baltic States with a few snow showers across Finland. Sweden will have a few bright spells, but also some snow showers. Norway may be generally dry although the threat of some snow in the west later.

A number of showers are expected around the Balearics eastward across Sardinia into Sicily and become much more frequent and heavy in the eastern Mediterranean. Cold across Italy today with a few wintry showers. Rain is forecast for parts of Greece, with the risk of snow across the former Yugoslavia and Austria. Apart from a few scattered rain and snow showers, most of Turkey will be dry with sunny spells. A dry day to come for Bulgaria, up through Romania and Hungary. A cold day from eastern parts of France, across into eastern Europe with temperatures generally at or below freezing. Outbreaks of rain, preceded by snow spread in across Britain today. While an area of rain stretches through Biscay into northern parts of Portugal and Spain. Southern parts of Portugal and Spain will be dry with sunny spells. Expect heavy and frequent showers running from the Balearics across Sardinia into Sicily through to Greece. Most of France will be fair and dry with sunny spells but very windy with gales in the south. Most of Belgium, Holland and Denmark will be cold but dry although a few wintry showers may be found around the coastal areas. A dry day across Germany, Denmark and Norway. While an area of snow is expected to stretch from northern Finland through Sweden, down through western parts of Poland across into Austria and Slovenia. Some rain may affect the far south of Italy with central and northern areas dry with sunny spells and dry up across Switzerland and the Alps. Expect a mix of rain and snow across the Czech Republic with outbreaks of snow through four Yugoslavia and perhaps into Bulgaria. Most of Turkey will be dry with sunny spells but dry weather across Romania and into much of the Ukraine, the Baltic States, perhaps southern Finland.
