BBC south today news - 45 to potentially gusts up to 50mph.....but overally finisihed by 11am

Main BBC news weather - no mention of as x katia but just as a low depression but with 70mph damaging winds north and scotland and "wild for some"

actually so gutted right now!, nothing more than a typical breezy day here in the far north highlands tomorrow, missing all the wind thanks to the movement of the storm to the south a little :(

With such an unstable airmass then thunderstorms could be embedded and most likely near the Northwest quadrant of the Low. Tornados are also possible.

A secondary low has been shown on NMM to form, its only currently on one model but its a very feasable suggestion. The area of interest shows a possible area for a shortwave to be forming but need a few more sat pics to really see for sure.

I've been spending 20 minutes poring over forecasts and models, and then walking away from my computer for a bit, and then coming back 10 minutes later... rinse and repeat.... :)

Its going to interesting tomorrow, I doubt there will be much wind here, but a high tide, plus swells could push the sea up the estuary here, perhaps flooding some of the beach-side homes in the process.

LOL Fred the weather man was funny - upping the 'Mild' temps, and in his most gently voice saying it would be gusty ............ I swear he wanted to say ' calm down dear ' search.gif

Apologies if this has been asked before but what significance, if any, would a shortwave make to the current weather pattern? New to all this and I find it fascinating.

One of the things that could be involved with a shortwave feature is the lowering of pressure, sometimes lower than the main storm itself in this case katia, heavy rain and stronger than forecast winds
