Squall fizzled before getting here.. how did I have a feeling that would happen?

It hasn't even reached leeds yet...

Its just passing through otley now. Winds strongly increased along with heavy rain and hail so far.

You were right Bugganut minutes after posting it hammered down an gusty winds but over now

Ye still raining up here about 10 miles North of Bristol, but its brightening up and calming down already.

Some showers may move inland for us later on this evening/tonight, but nothing that noteworthy. Most of these will be confined to north-western areas anyway.

It hasn't even reached leeds yet...

And yes HC is right, it should be hitting Leeds within approx the next half hour or so.

Do we think this will most of it's intensity before it reaches the SE?

Skies becoming clearer here, temp continues to fall as the cooler air moves over, 6.5c in a strong westerly wind.

The Keswick 14.00 weather report suggests rain/snow ppn

Something is just hitting here, big black sky and almost broke the office window out of its frame!!! Peak gusts around 38 mph and buffeting the building - not big in comparison to our Celtic friends I know!

Ana-front squall was more of a convective feature here, light to moderate winds (exceptionally gusting a hour prior to its arrival) but the winds slackened off as the squall approached giving only moderate-heavy rainfall which is still going on now with the cold pooling. Small hail pellets also seen visually.

Starting to calm down here.. Small trees, trellis and bird feeding stations have all blown over in the garden. Plenty of strong winds and heavish rain today.

For the Saturday and Sunday low all the models are agreeing on its path although its exact position is still unknown we are increasingly getting confident on its placement. How deep it will go is still unknown at this time but at the moment only the far North of Scotland would see the strongest winds. For the Monday storm not all the models are agreeing on its path or strength but the ECM and GFS show something similar meanwhile the UKMO doesn't show anything like it.

Indeed so, at least based on the latest UKMO-GM, but the new run and analysis is awaited currently. However, Exeter's medium range folks are well aware of the potential from this set-up into Sun-Mon, but the current uncertainty needs stressing, as per in their own words earlier today: "Some uncertainty regarding the development of a depression expected to cross S’ern parts of the UK during Sunday. A more developed system would bring a risk of heavy rain and strong winds across S’ern areas and perhaps some snow across N’ern areas. Confidence not high enough for any alerts at this stage...."

Watch this space...

Ian

I have to say this was probably the most over hyped event for a long time (second only to ex-Katia in September!!!)

Do we not have a whole week of possibilities yet though?

I suppose that depends where you live, the strongest winds were as forecast towards the western and nothern coasts, 60-70mph gusts with 80mph in the usual high wind area over North Wales.

Torrential rain and brief hail with gusts of 60-65mph was experienced in my location, followed by a sharp drop in temperature.

Currently very windy from the west, 6.7c.

Not referring to winds, but rain; was expecting a good squall here.. didn't seem worth the Level 1 warning by ESTOFEX
