Still snowing, albeit somewhat lighter, at Cleadon with a temp of 0.7C- looking at the radar it seems that the showers out in the North Sea have merged into more continuous snow, so as long as the wind doesn't pick up off the sea (the rapid NE-SW movement on the radar to the north does look rather ominous), this could be continuing for quite a while.

I love the North Sea in the winter Ian ;-)))

Not very heavy here in Durham and not settling here in the centre anyway. Wet snow/sleet when it's particularly light. Personally, I don't think it'll amount to much here at least.

Snowing heavy here- got some pics for later, lying on all surfaces. Brilliant event! 1-2cm for most currently.

I assume you mean potentially, because there is 0mm lying in Durham and surrounding area.

1cm here after a 15 minute snow shower. It seems very wet though, everything is dripping.

Snowing on and off in Newcastle, lying on some surfaces in the heavier bursts

It's lying everywhere just to the north of Newcastle (I live near the freeman hospital), even the main road has a little slush on it!

Great start to the Christmas holidays, although it'll be gone around an hour after it stops snowing. :D

It's lying in Newcastle too, albeit not the actual centre but certainly the Fenham and Benwell areas and also St james's...

It's certainly marginal- the temperature at Cleadon has stood at 0.7C for a while, just low enough to enable the snow to settle in heavier bursts.

The snow has turned more showery here over the last hour, but it has remained cloudy, presumably due to the bunching together of the showers. Clouds are moving faster now.

Yeah, it may tip our temperatures to the wrong side of marginal in some frontal events but it's more than offset by the large amounts of convection that it generates- I think of these winter setups with winds vectored between north and east as being the most significant positive aspect of the North East climate.

Right, back home after a 40 min walk from Harraton to home!

0950- snow begins (mostly sleet)

1000- becomes moderate-heavy (lying on most surfaces)

1030- snow stops after light snow for 30 mins

1050- continues, albeit very light

1140- heavy snow, lying on all surfaces

1200- dying down

1220- some sleet

2.5cm in the back garden, just measured

How is Stanley and Consett doing? I guess it won't be marginal up there?

It's days like today I wonder why I moved from Stanley to Nottingham, we missed last nights snow, we're missing the Cheshire Gap Streamer, and now missing the North Sea showers  Suppose I'd better get used to it!

Hope everyone up there gets a good covering today.

Lots of shower activity in the north sea at present- this definitely ranks up there as the best snow event since Dec 21st (I think) last year. Rather surprising aswell, it's now 0.8c here, but temps should begin to drop around 1pm.

Aye! The dew point has however rose to 0.1c now... sleet/rain likely in light showers... lets hope for some very heavy showers :)

-1.2 here with about 3 inches covering and still coming down heavy. Imaging consett is pretty similar as only 4 miles as crow flys and about same height.
