Confident of any snow overnight and tomorrow guys? Temps are way higher over this way, 4.1c with rain and hail showers here. :)

Hopeful rather than confident. I'd say marginal, and a very small chance of any precip here, maybe a little on a nne wind. It's gonna be close.

Saw some lovely anvils in the sunset to the west of me; so looks like there has been something wintry falling over the Pennines.

That's the showers over Cumbria and Lancashire, a bit further west than the Pennines.

I was just saying my area is NORMALLY the mildest area in the Northeast

True, but that's still a good deal better than almost every other low lying part of England.

My prediction of 6-9am tomorrow morning.

Areas <20 miles from the Western coast will likely see rain tomorrow.

Uppers will be marginal on the Southern coast also.

Paul Mooney on Look North suggesting a northerly for Saturday which might bring a few wintry showers to the north east, but on Sunday the wind backs westerly again leaving eastern areas dry but cold alomg with western areas.

Sounds like a good call to me, so for us in the north east Saturday looks our best bet for any wintry precipitation :nea:

The only thing I can see where there might be PPN for Saturday is that the UKMO model shows a kink in the isobars which can increase PPN amounts or it indicates theres a weather front of some sorts there. Personally I think our chances are very limited but we may get a few convective showers early on Friday before winds veer more NNW/NW'ly.

0°C now :D

At least there's been quite a few frosts this year despite the lack of snow :)

And Jarrow isn't a mild urban area? Its at ~10m asl right on the the river, and if I get a slushy covering there's usually nothing at all there.

Jarrow is hardly an urban area :p well where i live it isn't, more suburban and its at 26m asl :) my Dad's is even better at around the highest point in Hebburn at 45m asl.

Already below freezing here and cars freezing up.

-2.2 here now so cold enough for snow but will probably be wasted with the ppn keeping well away

Yep, following your temperature rather well here in picktree; -1.9c.

Are you in a frost hollow down there?

It does appear it- i'm near the river wear, and the top of my road there is a hill; but it's not a particularly strong frost hollow, just 0.5-2c lower than Durham on most nights, although in winter months it does mean I get substantially more air frosts.

Must be some frost hollows from some members. Either that or dodgy recoding equipment,

0.6°C here in Durham.

Just had dog out across fields. Love the sound of hard frozen grass under foot. -2.7 now

I have a hard time believing some of these figures from areas away from rural Northumberland and Durham (or at height). No PWS on wunderground are recording lower than 0°C, apart from a notoriously dodgy Langley Park site.

No dodgy equipment I can tell you! It is generally on the edge of a forest, and near a river, and at the top of my street is a hill basically. And readings in chester-le-street support this :)

-2.1c here - very cool. Should turn milder as cloud moves in.

Quite high and very rural northumberland here with perfectly calibrated equipment

Still hovering at around 0°C here, although the car and pavements look quite icy now.
