Snow in Old Trafford, hope it's not too bad in Oldham!

Well it's stopped here now, it's difficult to tell but looking at the radar it might be going a bit to the south of our area now and more into Manchester, might catch some of the that precip thats up near the coast of Cumbria but we'll see.

1st snow cover of the season under Met Office rules.

Can see anvil to the NW of my location.

A mass of preciptation off the North Wales coast. The hills of NE Wales could be in for a good covering.

Yes, I snapped a shot of an anvil too. Dunno if it is an avil, just looked like one:

An anvil is a basic tool, a block with a hard surface on which another object is struck. The inertia of the anvil allows the energy of the striking tool to be transferred to the work piece. In most cases the anvil is used as a forging tool. Before the advent of modern welding technology, it was a primary tool of metal workers.

The great majority of modern anvils are made from steel, though other types exist.

Because anvils are very ancient tools and were at one time very commonplace, they have acquired symbolic meaning beyond their use as utilitarian objects

Joke :D

Anvil - The flat, spreading top of a Cb (cumulonimbus), often shaped like an anvil. Thunderstorm anvils may spread hundreds of miles downwind from the thunderstorm itself, and sometimes may spread upwind

Quite a heavy snow shower in Preston as I left this morning, wet stuff but is was starting to give a covering on grass and pavements.

Arrived up at work and there seems to be a bit more snow here (near Kendal) only a light dusting.

Interesting cross sectional drive of Lancashire this morning. Snow in Longridge, settled albeit not very deep until the eastern edge of Preston. Then nothing, then at Kirkham heavy rain, turned to heavy snow and then to heavy sleet by Blackpool. Raining lightly where I work near the sea front. I think today is the very definition of a marginal snow event!
