The snow starts! Currently light, keeping an eye on Pits weather station, temp -0.5c and dewpoint -4.7c. Being 200m asl should help, heavier stuff to come shortly

Steely grey sheet of stratus overhead and a steady breeze from the SW - not usually a snowy sign IMHO but it has happened before.. Temp has been steady at 0.6°C for about an hour now and the DP is -4.2°C so all to play for.

Teachers at school have told the kids it will snow so they are on tenterhooks - let's hope that the teachers are right..... I agree with Reef, the Vale of York is the acid test for this area.

Forecast summary for today and tonight,

Snow showers are likely in Western parts during this afternoon but the best chances for this region seem to be around 6pm to 9pm this evening. At 6pm it looks like snow showers will cover most area's with only the far Northern parts missing out. By 9pm heavy snow is likely across the Eastern coasts and Inland areas as well but the far North and South Western parts may miss out on any wintry weather. During the night Southern and Southwestern parts will see heavy snow before it moves by the morning elsewhere drying up.

Hope this summary helps and will try to provide a more up to date one later.

Watching the net-weather radar, might catch the northern tip of it! Which when looking at whats following on might be best!

Where about in Sheffield are you, keeping an eye on your weather station seen as i don't have one in the student acom!

Netweather radar is more detailed my opinion and yes, a heavy blob directly aiming at Sheffield.

Very impressed already, light/fine snow has already covered everything with heavier on the way.

Planning to take a walk to Tesco's at about 3pm.

The only time I will be going out today is for a take away and some beers, phreferably when the snows at it's heaviest :D
