I don't usually bother looking at the pub run anyway. Probably an outlier, going to wait until Thursday afternoon to make my judgement.

-0.8C and dropping fast now.

No doubt here will be one of the coldest, if not among the coldest in the region come tomorrow morning.

I hate it too. Why can't it just be run once a day? The 12z is by far the best run, it's always the most accurate.

I'm going to ignore the GFS until Thursday. I'd also watch for a major slip up by the Met Office. I've a feeling they're going to get this event completely wrong going by the FAX charts this evening.

ECM is the way forward.

Your temperature will rise soon I think, that breeze is a real pain in the neck.

I doubt it, we havent got a breeze. it's all the way down from here to 8am tomorrow!

If I dont wake up with -5C tomorrow, I will be a little surprised

Don't you say this most times, and then 30 minutes later your temperature is at +4C

A little exaggeration BT lol...

well on a clear night where it stays clear it often falls fast and then levels out.. however in the scenario here when we have cloud and it clears, the resulting fall in temperature usually doesn't recover in my experience.

-1.1C now and falling at a rate of -1.5C/hr.

GFS 18z is a horror show to be honest, back to gales and rain by 144hrs onwards, if it's to be believed that is.

The reason the Atlantic can get back in so easy is because the high is situated to far east and the back door is seemingly left open to attacks. If the high centre had been closer to Scandinavia we would be seeing much different outputs.

What's more bizarre is that only approx 15 miles away, Kinloss is 0C!

The Inverness station is also reporting 0mph wind which is ideal if you want big temp drops. Still a very large difference.

Edit : 30 miles separate the two locations with Kinloss being the more exposed. (Google Earth) :)

0.0C, and still stalled here :(

Likely to stay this way throughout the night, there's just too much of a breeze.

-1.6C now.. and should reach -3C before the next batch of cloud comes through.. even then the cloud i) might not make it, and ii) wont affect the fall anyway.

There could be as much as 4-5 degrees difference between us by morning BT.. this time I do believe your sensor is on 0.0C.

You might think 4-5C is an exaggeration but in 2010, the temperature here was 0.7C whilst in Ness Garden only 3 miles away, it was -7C, which was unbelievable..

Edit: -1.9C :80:

Ok think SP wins on the temp front. Temp ever so slightly on the rise here. Currently 0.2c. Really calm, no breeze whatsoever.

Nah, the cloud won't make it, the Pennines are making short work of any cloud that tried to cross, if you look at the last batch, it was simply eaten.

I'm on -0.1C now, the wind is starting to die back a bit. We'll probably make -3C by dawn, but you'll probably pull a -5C or even -6C out of the hat.

Wow really? 6C over 3 miles?! :o
