0.1C now, so we will be in for an air frost soon! I guess about -2C at midnight.

LOL. I'll let you know when I breach -2......probs before 10

All I need is another 10th of a degree for an air frost.

I'll probably be at -3C/-4C before dawn once we push past this period of stalling.

A slight rise in temp over the last 10 mins to -2.6c after touching -3.3c. Still very cold.

A chart from weatheronline showing the minimum temps last night over the NW, notice St Bees Head situated right on the Cumbrian coast which recorded the lowest temp excluding the high level station @ Great Dun Fell which touched -6.0c. Also Hawarden down to -5.0c

Due to the wide scatter of the weather stations then no doubt many locations could have reached lower than these values, but we shall never know.

Then again, the satellite shows cloud over the Pennines heading this way. Could be another frustrating night. :(

Bit of cloud overhead. Probably explains the stall.

Oh well January has failed to produce a snowflake here - what a poor month for snowfall, no decent polar maritime/arctic maritime airstream to tap into..

I'm preety confident Feb will deliver on the snow front and big time!

A cloudy raw day here, not sure what temps were last night but there was no frost to be seen - I'm preety sure temps got down to at least freezing?

Its similiar this evening - no frost on the cars yet temps are below freezing - is it because of the exceptionally dry air?- its very strange and deceptive.

Tomorrow should bring some decent sunshine and tomorrow night looks a proper cold one - couold get down to -5 degrees or below provided we don't have any cloud cover - mind the east wind has picked up a little.

I di like easterlies - but the current one is not doing it for me in terms of deep cold or snow - give me a greenland high as opposed to a siberian high any day, we need the centre of the high to be closer to our shores and a much stronger wind to create convection. Mind given the dire winter we have had so far in terms of cold weather, the current conditions are very welcome.

My attention is towards the weekend - too early to call where snow will fall, but if the front stalls a major snowfall could happen and last a lot longer than some may be expecting - would love to see a feb 5/6 96 event again.

Looking ahead to Feb - I am foreseeing a north/northeasterly airstream setting in as we approach mid month - a much better direction for convection.

Falling rather more quickly now, -0.4C. Perhaps -5C is possible by dawn.

Have I missed anything in respect To the weekend runs?

Possible battleground for snow in the north west! Early yet to call but the next few days should give us a better indication of things to come

Temperature fluctuating as the breeze has kicked in, feeling like -3C in the wind, the air temperature is -0.1C.
