I hardly think that's a fair comparison taking into consideration that your location is over 4 times higher than mine?

Okay fair enough, Leeds center saw snow (30M).

Well I've seen rain when you've seen snow BT and quite a few times, so it's even more marginal here that it is with you

Im still not confident that i will see any snow here in the west. Thats just because we have been let down so many times.

I had notived that the front was associated with a nw-ley a few days ago on
gfs
. we need the front and ppn to come early tbh.

Very true, but a quick scan of the UKMO and GEM aught to put your mind at rest = snow all the way. :winky:

Good ECM. -4C uppers all the way. Frontal event and embedded cold = snow.

So that's the GEM, ECM and UKMO for snow all the way. Come on GFS, you windows 7 reject.

Sorry to bang on about my trees.......do we have an idea of how frosty Friday night Saturday morning its going to be?

I think you may struggle to get them planted. Ground is going to be too hard.

-2.6c now and it seems to have stalled, thats cold enough for this time of night thanks!

Isle of Man is 1.0c sitting in the middle of the Irish Sea, shows how cold the air is. SST's are around +5/6c.

See the ECM mate? Would remain as snow all the way should it verify :)

And how many frontal snow events have you actually seen?

February 2011- Front stalls against high to our east, 7-11cm in Leeds, rain in North west

Januray 2011- Front pushing up from the south (one that stalled over Scotland), 3-5cm in Leeds, rain in North West

February 2010- Front pushes up from south, 7-10cm in Leeds, rain in North west

3rd December 2008- Front pushes in from east, 10-15cm in Leeds, rain in North West

I can't remember the exact dates but I remember the snowfall and remember it been restricted to central northern England.

Its not all that common as you think

:)

You can't generalise all of the north west in that, i am not far from Halifax but still classed as the north west.

-4 minimum uppers all weekend if i read it correctly, coming up against entrenched cold, that has to be snow all the way surely?

I'll back BT up here, I remember many fronts that have fell as snow here over just the last 3 years, for example:

23rd Dec 2009, warm front from the southwest, fell as snow very heavy, 10 CM here.

13 Jan 2010, warm front from southwest, fell as snow lasted all day, 5 CM.

18 Feb 2010, warm front, snowed all morning, 3 CM.

21 Feb 2010, warm front, 5 CM snow, melted in afternoon.

March 2010, several snow to rain fronts.

Second friday in Dec 2010, warm front, fell as snow here though not forecast.

This list doesn't include the many snow fronts of winter 2005-6 as well as countless others in the passed, and remember, I live on the coast!

There is a theme of expect the unforecast with this sort of sett up.

It's not over yet!

Yes ECM looking good, hopefully further upgrades on future runs! GFS keeps 850's below 0c briefly rising to -2/-3c before falling again, air thickness stays sub 530dam. All fine for frontal events, evaporative cooling should work a treat. Then the temperature falls sub zero behind the front. :)

Still not going to get excited until I physically see snow falling outside!

-2.7c now.

-4C uppers are perfect, but for a front like this, -1C/-2C would do, as it comes up against the strong surface cold.

It's golden. We're going to be plastered. :D

Thank you kind sir!

It was never over btw, if the ECM, GEM and UKMO are right (versus the GFS), then we're getting pasted. :D

I wouldn't ramp yet, I'm still expecting something to go wrong haha [/reverse psychology]
