No ice day thanks to the strength of the February sun. Just broke zero a massive 10c rise in 4 hours!

Had it been a month ago a definite ice day.

Nope. Anything white will be a bonus. Best think nothing then be surprised when you get something.

Should know better at my age. Still get over excited then massively dissapointed. Fool!

so is there any snow then, or have we been let down again?

Yes I'm sure we'll all see a little snow and some may see 5cms + before it starts to turn back to rain - Amber alerts now up on the metos site - West Midlands are in that - 5 - 10cms possible there - we are sooooooooooooooooooo close - and you never know - if the cold works just that little bit harder - it could turn out a little better for us - so everyone open there freezer doors in the morning to help! lol :p:good:

Not sure if this is an error or not yet - meto have now added us to sundays snow fun too in Wales - from the models that doesn't look possible - I thought it might be an ice risk - but it says snow - has to be an error surely!

It looks like the Met Office are taking into account the fact that the cold may win for longer than the models predict. I wouldn't be surprised to see some snow in some lower levels of Wales tomorrow before it turns to sleet/rain. Higher levels and the far east may see a decent covering.

Looking further ahead at their updates, they dont seem to confident for beyond the weekend for here in wales at least they mention only damp and drizzly conditions and temperatures returning to normal :(. Can someone tell where on meto site you can sign up for alerts in your inbox?

Still -0.3 here and steady for the last half hour, so might well just squeeze an ice day. Which would set us up for another very cold night.

Tomorrow looking wet, the prospect of upgrades and snow diminishes with every passing hour, as high-res models seem to be showing progression of anything slightly further east than was predicted by the medium-term models.

Still will be interesting looking at the radar and checking reports though, always a possibility of a surprise.

Also still expect snow on the leading edge here as well, could see a cm or 2 before it turns to rain.

Something to try and cheer us up a bit - the GEM model is a bit more bullish about keeping the snow for longer for tomorrow

gem-2-42.png?00

gem-2-48.png?00

I think the thing to do right now is see how this front comes across from Ireland - see if it begins to get held up at all - the longer it can be held up the better - meaning the cold air will get more mixed in!

maps above show Wales with a crossed hatched area over it - that means snow - and the two maps cover 12 midday and 6pm in the afternoon - snow pretty much all the way

Just in my in box from the met office - lovely dramatic statement

Snow likely to bring disruption this weekend

This weekend will see a marked change in the weather as the dry spell makes way for snow and ice for many parts.
