Not time to give up yet, we can still get disruptive snow in March don't forget.

Dare I say it...but Spring is in the air this afternoon.

Sun trying to come out and a milder than expected 9c. Quite pleasant!

7.6c here was the max here today, the warmest for some time. 3.3c currently. I have to agree a fairly boring day's weather, damp and cloudy is probably my least favourite weather type.

It's been pretty dry here since the first week of january, only around 30mm in the last month or so. There could well be a proper drought this summer for parts of eastern England (see http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/feb/12/summer-drought-looms-for-england) but at least it was reasonably wet here in the autumn and December so it shoudn't be a problem, is Wales ever short of rain lol?

Well I have had 136.8mm of rain since the start of the year so here its not been that dry!

Today was couldy and damp, nothing special with a temp just about 7C, currently now 6.0C and looks like this week i have a chance of seeing double figures for the first time this month!

This possible north/north westerly if the cold gets far enough south, do you think we could get some snow showers from this in Wales and from an imby point of view South Wales?

One of the hardest directions to get snow from in South Wales is the northerly and especially as we head further towards spring - it's not impossible though

GFS looks promising for Sunday with uppers of below -5, sub 528 dam air, low ground temps of 1-3C and precipitation coming into coasts of north and west wales on a nw wind. ECM is kind of similar but I think it wants to move it through very quickly.

One of the hardest directions to get snow from in South Wales is the northerly and especially as we head further towards spring - it's not impossible though

26 February 2004 saw 4 inches of snow from a NW flow.

1 March 2006 also saw 4 inches of snow from a NW flow.

16 April 1999 also saw 2 inches of snow from a NW flow, although this did thaw by 12 noon.

Northerlies are the best and most reliable source of snow for South West Wales.

-----------------------------

There certainly is potential for some snow showers into the weekend, however it is a small window of opportunity and even a slight downgrade, especially if High pressure pushes in too soon would kill off the opportunity.

So fingers crossed but don't be surprised if the chance is gone well before Saturday.

meto have mentioned the words 'breezy, and 'windy' in their forecast for Wales. Is that stiffupperlipian speak for roaring wind and whippingly cold with it? Or is it just outside my house then?
