They are very gradually moving NNE although the ones over Shropshire are almost static.

Of course they travel with the upper flow between the 850 and 700hpa levels usually.

So, what do you think the chance is of something spectacular today?

There seems to be alot going on, but the convergence zone seems also to be in a different place than forecast.

The stuff to the west look promising though.

Not really any rain in the amber zone, is this expected later on or has it moved further north?

Some rain appears to be moving west near Merseyside/Liverpool area, while other rain is moving east. Really weird.

Quite astonishing how that line of showers fizzled out within the 30 miles or so between here and south Derbyshire. I looked at the radar around 11 pm yesterday and it seemed nailed on that heavy rain would arrive within half an hour or so but in the event there was nothing more than a short spell of light-moderate rain. When I back tracked the radar this morning the heavy rain remained in situ for several hours whilst light rain moved north from it, rather like steam rising from a wet plank, giving the impression that the whole lot was moving north. 15-20 mm of rain in south Derbyshire and 1.5 mm here.

It seems to be building now further south than the heavy rain currently, going by the warning they must expect this rain to suddenly intensify a lot. It is very slow moving though, which is probably why there are numerous warnings out.

It seems rather quiet on here today?

We've got off pretty lightly here in Solihull so far, nothing overnight and only an hour or so of light rain late morning. Strange to think we were in an Amber warning area.

Its been the same here and after watching the national and local weather after the 10 oclock news on the beeb i got the impresion i would be waking to heavy rain. How can the forcast have been so wrong that near to the forcasted rainfall.

Mostly dry but very dull today. Amber warning certainly not warranted here!

It's often the case with rainfall, very difficult to predict exact areas and amounts, and as usual one area gets floods while down the road next to nothing. The amber warning was perhaps warranted for the north Midlands.

The rain is bad enough...but this dull, light, drizzly rubbish is THE worst!

prefer that to heavy rain during the day, but from 6pm, would be great to get deluge or storm, and then stop at 8am

all in all a truly horrible day in these parts....a downpour of biblical proportions this morning followed by steady drizzle all afternoon to date...anything is preferable to this dross!

You had a mildly exciting moment with the downpour, you got it lucky! It's the summer equivalent of those boring cloudy easterlies in winter where it's 4c day and night.

Did you not catch the drenching this morning?...I knew it was localized whilst viewing the radar, but considering how long it lasted, I didn't realise it was that localized!

Are those showers coming across the Irish Sea going to make it to the midlands? They look as though they are strengthening.

A pleasant morning here.....partly cloudy skies, occasional spells of sunshine and feeling fairly warm with a light westerly breeze.....but this heralds a change later on this afternoon and into the evening as a frontal system encroaches from the atlantic bringing some potentially heavy rain to all parts of the region, clearing tomorrow to heavy, blustery possibly thundery showers....talking of which, yesterday's showers failed to materialize, well, at least north of Brum they failed, as it ended up a lovely day here, dry, sunny & pleasantly warm!

Yup, possibility of more thundery showers tomorrow. As I'm getting a train to Reading at 1.22, there will be a humdinger of a storm in Cannock and the surrounding areas at 2pm. All storm hunters have been warned!
