Radar shows Durham back to rain but considering the reports, and knowing what the net weather radar is like versus reality, I expect it is still snowing! There'll definitely be a cover come the morning.

South Shields has shot back up to 2.8C with a NNE wind. Meanwhile another snow shower is approaching Sandhutton, though it looks as if this one will only be light. After that, it's probably for the best if my location dodges subsequent showers as I feel that the warmer pool of air may be approaching, hence the report of rain in Newcastle.

3.6 at South Shields now and rising rapidly. Meanwhile, as expected, a light snow flurry at Sandhutton, with a light dusting of snow still on the grass, cars and rooftops, though not on concrete surfaces.

A light snow flurry here shortly after 1.0 am, otherwise a dry and mainly clear night with a fresh N breeze.

There was a couple of inches or so lying at midnight but it got rather milder with steady thaw by 5pm, however wind has backed to NNW now and temperature has dropped slightly again.

The hills are still very white but green is showing through lower down.

Heaviest snow shrs about 5/10 miles to my East overnight. Copley reporting 11cm snow lying. More snow in Barnard Castle than here.

Here just 1/2cm powdery snow but with strong wind it just blown about.

Overninght low -1.1C, penetrating frost with F6 wind gusting 35mph.

No snow in Cumbria apart from the odd light shr in the evening.

went to bed last night after a decent snow shower which gave a slight covering here in Scarborough. Got woken loads through the night by some quite hefty hail / sleet showers with some impressive wind gusts in the heavier showers.

Thought there might be a good covering but seems it warmed up during the night and melted it all!

Quite impressive still for October.

Moderate snow here in Washington right now. Also a lot thicker flakes in this shower than last night.

Surprised at the latest radar, thought all the showers would be out in the North Sea

by this time but apparently not!

Front garden looking very festive for October.

Heavy now showers this morning, but it is rather wet, and the existing snow is rather slushy; the grass has 2cm, but the road is just wet.

This is far more than I expected in October!

Very nice.

A slight frost here this morning, and rather icy after the earlier showers.

The radar still looks good for a couple more hours, so we could see one or two more showers. I still can't believe it's the 27th October!

It's starting to snow again, but the lying snow is melting fast.

Edit - its sleeting now
