I really want to put an open fire back into where i live... it is a victorian house which unfortunately suffered under the 70s gas fire revolution! Gas fire no longer there and plastered over.... its on my 'to do' list... dread to think how much it'll cost!

If it's only plaster, should be a cheap and easy job to do.

Weather reports suggesting this rain will clear East tonight? Hmmm....looking at the European radar and raintoday.co.uk, it would suggest yet more rain tonight surely coming up from France?

Looks to be drifting away from the UK.

The dip in the road was completely flooded on the drive home. I always get a bit too excited when I get to drive through it like a log flume hitting the waterpardon.gif

I now know who to blame if I get splashed by a car driver *whistles innocently*

After we moved to this house we took out a gas fire and put in a Victorian open fire. Lit it the first time and smoke percolated through the walls of the floor above. Which was a little alarming. Turned out we had to have the flue lined - not cheap in a 3 storey Victorian house! Well worth it, except that we light the fire far more than is decent - once you light it regularly the room seems naked without it!

I read somewhere that lighting a real fire is like starting the heart of your home beating.

Edit.... Next step: a log burning stove in a room that currently has a gas 'coal effect' thing

On the subject of Hallowe'en, whatever happened to penny for the Guy? Another of our old traditions erased by the insidious influence ot the United States I'm sure. If there had been a Guy Schwartz and he had tried to blow up the White House at some point in the past I'm sure we would be celebrating it still. Trick or treat indeed (sniff).

I have a wood burner Exodus there are wood burners that insert into your fireplace all you need to do is line the flu and make sure the surrounding walls are heat proof with tiles or slate as that is a cheaper option. I have a modern house with no fireplace and have installed a wood burner with a twin sided flu out of the wall and up the outside wall to the roof. I would not be without it now it is great I would recommend one to anybody and the bonus is the heat is not lost up the chiney like with an open fire.

I am looking forward to getting my burner fired up in the coming cold spell.

Morning any early birds around ?

It's cool and cloudy here, 7.8 °C feels quite autumnal - maybe it's just the dark dampness of the early morning !

Hopefully catch you all later post walk and breakfast angel.gif

Morning all,

Well at least the rain has cleared but we are now left with light fog and a very dark start, is this fog just with me on the coast in Sussex?

This is an interesting view of things to come, if folks haven't read it yet.

As an insight from a Met Office perspective, one should especially note the wording based on trends downward from normal Air Temperature values. As for snow though, don't even go there at this timescale. good.gif
