Am I the only sentient being to be irked by the phrase "cold snap?" It implies something momentary that is then gone straight away and is used mindlessly by endless Daily Mail and Daily Express pseudo journalists regardless of the length of any cold spell. Hands up who has heard of a "hot snap?" Thought so.

Yep I think this thing is evolving very nicely, Just goes to show that FI on the models is only for picking up on trends and not to be taken run for run.

It looks like well below temperatures for at least 10 day at the moment, after that who knows ?

A big atlantic block sets up and sends the jet well south, you can see the systems being squeezed underneath it and we

are left with a cold nortth/north westerly flow. This could be around for some time.

Morning all. :hi:

A bit too dark yet to see the state of the sky, but I bet it's not a clear and bright start when it gets going. Some mist still lingering in the back lanes, but not as damp generally as it has been recently. Looking forward to a cold and hopefully clear weekend. :)

Mornin each. Murk, murk and more murk. Dull but a mild 12 at the mo. this persistent dullness is beginning to make me feel claustrophobic. :o â˜â˜â˜â˜â˜

I laughed at my sister in law on Sunday when she was getting excited about the Indian Summer we were going to get this week.

'But, but the papers and tv said.....' she said

Definitely my worst kind of weather. Unfortunately Winter is the season where this is most likely.

Here it's dull, with slight mist now.

What we need is some bright, clear blue skies and sparkling frost. The kind of day that brings a healthy glow to ones cheeks. (Facial ones) :D

I'm going to take a keen interest in the Stratosphere thread this year, as it is spoken of highly. I spent a certain amount of time reading it and reading background links too. Very interesting it is too.smile.png

Unfortunately for me, a lot of learning is required, so I then fell asleep for about four hours (I can do this when studying; reading my accountancy text books had the same effect years ago) so didn't go into chat later, as I had intended.unsure.png

I'll be on the Strat thread again tonight, but I might be there some time...ph34r.png

Sun has just come out here!

Might mean a nice warm day then!cool.png

It snows in the Antarctic at -50C...

To be fair Pete, it does but I don't think it's more then very fine snowflakes at that temperature, not the type many snow fans desire. The huge fluffy snowflakes that provide thick deep snowfall

He may just be making the point that "it's too cold to snow" is not really appropriate for the UK?smile.png

Good on you Steve. A lot to learn but as in life, we all once took baby steps before becoming fullly walking talking Homo sapiens. friends.gif

Same here and although not foggy like the last two mornings there was a very bad RTA on the main road first thing involving 3 cars and a van, all emergency services in attendance, I just hope no one has been badly hurt or worse mellow.png

......which goes to show you don't always need snow to create a magical winter wonderland sometimes just cold is enough!

I can't wait to get out with my camera this winter and try to capture some of natures beauty at it's finest time of year.

What beautiful pictures, never get that near me. Well I don't have deer in the small park at the bottom of my garden for a start, and beyond that is a petrol station so not the same really, but the odd frosty tree is nice to see all the same.

I like this thread, I've discovered there are others near me :)
