Well that GFS certainly throws us a curve ball. Frontal snow for Monday anyone ?

Seriously the swings are ridiculous at the moment i'd almost go as far to say reliable timeframe is 48hrs at the moment. Certainly a move in the right direction though.

Is it safe to go in the MOD thread? I've gone into hiding over the last hour or so for obvious reasons..

Having now looked in there it doesn't seem as bad as I feared it was going be, my cynical side says that a lot that is probably down to people straw clutching though.

Not for us it isn't - we would always be too far North on the ECM - there would be some huge totals in the South/South East though.

Don't speak to soon, when it comes to snow! I have seen lots of snow fall over the years when not shown on the forecasts and I have seen snow forecasted for the south shift northwards!

Polar Lows are also rare beasts which crop up from time to time unexpectedly, although the more NNE'ly the direction the more moisture they can pick up and stand a better chance of making a impact further inland than otherwise simply being driven by a Easterly and missing out on the best SSTs the North Sea still has to offer.

I'll be up on the hills this weekend overseeing the SPIRE race event so accumulated ground-snow and ice is something that the runners could do without for 7 days, the cold can easily be overcome.

Ian

at the momemt i dont really care, there is plenty of time for upgrades/downgrades

trying to pin down who sees snow, who dosent is total irrelevent, the meto dont even know

the extent of saturdays ppn yet, granted it won reach here.

the old saying get the cold locked in first then start looking for snow

At the moment not much too far north and west. Output changing all the time and i don't for one second think that'll happen like that.

I think by tomorrow morning It be dusting of snow in places especially inland areas as the weather front dying to death over us. I could not rule out an odd snow flurry, If we are lucky that is.

Fog forming again now, and it looks like freezing fog too. Ain't going to be doing any stargazing tonight when it comes on BBC1 at 8pm. I think if we keep the cold theme going next week, there should be some snowfall for us in the north west. Might not be the place that recieves the most, but most parts of the region should see something wintry over the course of the week.

I understand the output will change.....but wouldnt it need to change a fair bit for snow on the nw coast?

PS has everyone else lost users locations?

A couple of weeks ago I stated on the regional thread that IMBY we hardly ever get fog.

Since then we,ve had more fog than I think Ihave seen in the last 20 years including now where visibility is down to obout 50 metres.

Obviously someone up there is trying to teach me a lesson.

Anyone think that saying IMBY we hardly ever get snow will have the same effect.

The user locations were taken off yesterday to stop the servers going down due to the amount of people logging on for the model thread, im sure they will put them back up when the weather changes! Lol,

Well it sure is cold outside, heres hoping we will get some snow from this, the rest of the country cant hog our snow all of the time! ;)

I think at busy times certain user information is withdrawn to reduce the band width and try to prevent the whole site crashing.

The 12z ECM is an absolute snow-fest of a run! Jeez if that verifies it maintains the cold but a major risk of snow with it.
