There's some stroking of beards going on over in the model discussion thread and general agreement that this could be modelled further west as we approach T-0, which for everyone in this thread is splendid news.

The SE & East coasters will get their fill from the upcomming easterlies so they'll be sitting pretty in the mid term. Pretty much ALL of our big snow events in this region have been from this type of incursion into a cold block, this is different but still similar.

If it comes off it will be better than Christmas.

yeah, if it does happen even by 50miles the rest if the week could benefit!

The transition zone is literally right over heads. If we get sleet and rain whilst 30 miles east gets 10CM, I'm going to be angry.

Damn whilst the 0z looks better for long lasting cold it takes the Snow event east, more marginal and id advise anyone to keep a 'it's going to rain Monday mindset'

Looks like the short range high res models keep snow for nearly all in the Midlands on Monday, but mostly light stuff. Longer range models produce a stronger feature but with more of a mild sector so rain or sleet more possible the further west you are. Height obviously useful also. Think we're going to have to wait 24 hours to get a clearer picture on this.

Morning question for the west mids contingent. Can anyone put a date roughly on the last time we saw a significant 10cms or more accumulation in our region via an overnight feature? Occurred to me last night all decent events in recent years have been daytime ones. Any ideas?

We had some sleetiness a little while ago here in Malvern, temp at 1.6oC.

Hmmm possibly mid December 2010, I remember the snow well as I hurt my back shovelling it away in the morning, Malvern I don't think had as much as 10 cms but I believe other places did better. That's my best guess, I am certain someone here has the definitive answer! Does depend where you live, though.

It's been snowing here for at least the last half hour - settled a bit on car and grass.

EDIT: I see locations not showing, so I'm at Lickey Hills, SW Birmingham, 286m

Hi barb, possibly march 2006 for far western areas of the mids, think Shrewsbury got more than 10cms overnight then. Don't think there are many in last 10 years though. Remember a lot more in the 80s when I was growing up, last really big one was 8th dec 1990 I think, may have been one in 1995/96 though I can't remember any off hand. Used to be great waking up to a blanket of snow first thing in the morning.
