There won't be any rain on Monday, that cold air is going nowhere and if anything the uppers should be a bit colder still, i think if your on the coast though, then I wouldn't be that surprised to see sleet

I'm being optimistic, there will be a slight westerly element to that wind early Monday morning.

As useless as they are - the Met Office computer generated forecasts give us 9 hours of light-heavy snow, followed by rain during the daytime.

Hello all.

Are we not in for " same rubbish, another winter" round here.

I have a knife handy and I can't decide which wrist to do first.

The only place that warning doesn't cover in our region is the Wirral. Interestingly. this seems to be because of a stiff NNW wind which will kick in early in the morning, so modification will occur here from the Irish Sea.

lol, couldn't make it up could we?

Nope, I just think this region is a joke. But thankfully I don't live in the Wirral.

BBC news 24 seemed to show quite a bit of snow over the NW England area, Sunday and Monday

I am right on the coast at New Brighton and I doubt we will get any snow that sticks our last snowfall here was December 2010 and before that January 2010 last year we just got freezing rain, we will just have to see what comes and keep our fingers crossed.

Morning everyone....couldn't remember my damn password so could even view the regional threads. Upcoming events have forced me to reset it! Hopefully an all snow event for the majority of the region, although we've all seen these go badly wrong before, where we've been forced to watch people sledging in inches in say, hertfordshire whilst we get a rapid thaw with cold rain.

Have you seen the revised warning for tommorrow and Monday? Looking a bit better!

Considering it's removed almost all of the western coast from the warning, and that it hasn't turned amber, I'd say it's more of a worry than an upgrade.

Last time the south had 5cm they closed 4 airports, so yes!

Also didn't see the warning for tomorrow night - game on! :)

For inland areas, it is important to get as cold as possible tonight for the ground to freeze. Then this will help the snow to settle easily tomorrow evening. When you get a good covering of snow, even if it turns to rain for a time, it won't melt much. Cold uppers seem to move back over us by the end of Monday.

Coastal areas should see a brief spell of snow but mainly rain after that.

A slight correction westwards, of the low coming down from the north/northwest is needed for the whole of our region to benefit. Let's hope we get it.

Lol, mate even the awful Met Office graphics show more than just a 'brief' period of snow for the coast. We should all see a covering, how long it lasts is still to be seen.

Hopefully it will drop a few degrees below 0C as you suggest tonight, though.

I did that's why I thought it had improved! Didn't know there's a second band on Monday anyone know more about this?

First band Sunday night, heavier band a few hours later into the morning. :)

We need a totally clear night tonight, no nuisance cloud and breeze.

We also need the first band (tomorrow evening) to be a bit more intense than currently shown as this one will be the safest one in terms of snow - there will be no Irish sea breeze with this one and therefore the snow is most likely to settle.

The second band is heavier but it comes with the risk for it to turn to rain at least for a time.

Doubt it'd be snow anyway - it's a little warm right now, uppers are only around -5C..

They turned the online feature off to save the database from crashing.

i have a bad felling the majority of this region is going to be looking enviously to the east south east come monday, those in saddleworth ie east of the region and esp those with altitude might get a covering, but west of manchester i think is going to be alet down

It is best to have low expectations to avoid disappointment! There is nothing worse than expecting snow and ending up with rain!
