Personally I would take a good dump of snow before the mild returns, lets be honest that's better than we can expect year in year out, unless we see repeats of 2010 for example.

It's rare to see snowy day after snowy day in our region, but what we are seeing forecasted and modelled is so much better than the prospects we had at the end of December.

I'm happy as it stands, as a keen weather enthusiast, it has been so fascinating over recent days, watching the models at war with each other within what we usually regard as reliable time frames.

Amazing and I'm glad I'm part of it, amazing forums here, and great input by all involved, used to think I was a weird before I stumbled on Netweather, or at least my family and friends did.

Depends if you mean 'no more rain' as in, no more flooding?

Any snow will melt anyway, so flooding will be an issue.

Very true, but snow makes us happier than dreary rain.

Agreed, if folks took my ensembles as a given, which of course they shouldn't, the ongoing general trend is towards a wet zonal period after the weekend's event.

We will have weather event coming up from Friday, What the specifics and what will fall from sky will be down to very near time forecasts, One way or another the fear for next week could be return to high rivers and flood risk, Would not be too surprised to see reasonable snow for our region this weekend, But it will turn mildier and any snow will thaw with further rain after front eventually pushsing through, Being older member on here can remember 78 heavy snow, This situation is rather similer to that event, but no two situations are ever the same, Just think at moment should give our forecasters some slack, they will have great difficulty in nailing down specifics right down to the event, Exciting times for weather fanatics and some nail biting time for snow lovers

Another surprise short-term development ahead of us. biggrin.png

Don't you just love these wintry type synoptics, nothing is EVER set in stone.

i'd expect them to be pushed more South-Westwards than actually southwards GTLTW, would be a nice surprise if it came down :)

Maybe so, but they aren't at the moment, let us know what you get Mark. good.gif

I can't remember seeing these light snow showers forecast, so once again it shows why we all shouldn't overanalyse longer-term details.

UKMO currently anticipate return to average temps through weekend but only after potential for disruptive snow event. Nothing in their analysis of 00z output steers away from notion of growing likelihood of a very snowy breakdown from W during Fri. Strong MOGREPS support on snow probability.

Thanks Ian, so not as progressive as GFS as this doesnt show much disrputive snow on 6z? is it s similar sotuation for western wales as SW England?
