NickR, 2.5cm of snow would equate to 2.5mm of rain.

You can see the depth quite well here:

This is upsetting, its turned to drizzle!

You're quite right. Momentary brainstorm.

Its not drizzle here, still some flakes falling, might be a little sleety though.

That shower just bought a light covering here on the thawing surfaces, a bit more may of accumulated on the snowcover surfaces though.

Its actually just very fine snow - phew! Larger flakes starting to fall again though. That was as good as any North Sea shower I've seen to date.

Over an inch?

I know it was a moderate to heavy shower but that sounds a bit excessive... you'd never get 25mm of rain from what just went over!

That would only represent 2mm, not 25 !!! Edited by snowmackem

Roughly 2.0°C here now down from a high of 3.8c at 13:22

I say roughly as the Pierremont station is the only one working at the moment and its been unreliable temperature wise compared to others in the area

Trees are starting to drip - must be getting marginal when the snow is lighter.

I know some people have done extremely well out of this, but it just goes to show how bad and rare an event of Nov/Dec 2010 really was. Thornaby had plenty of snow back then, 10-12". Now, we have nothing. Pathetic attempt at winter so far for my area.

Exactly the same here 2010 brought well over 20cm of snow this event has brought 7cm at best with the melting now plenty of dripping going on out there now

This is the third best cold spell in the last 10 years in terms of snow depth, although it hasn't felt as severe as January or November & December 2010. I'm pretty sure this area did well in 2005, but thaws kept the maximum depth at 6 inches or so.

I think the area as a whole has done quite well in terms of geographical extent (dales, moors etc) but our large population areas havent fared quite as good its just a shame our forefathers didnt decide to build newcastle where consett is now or boro somewhere in tynedale!!
