Sounds like the sun is on that Darlo station (it's not anywhere near 7c!)

Snowing heavily here in Gateshead, temp has rose somewhat since this morning but it is a lot less marginal than yesterday.

Snow depths are approaching those of Jan 2010 although not quite at the level of Dec 2010. This cold spell although not especially cold has been snowy.

Yes really big flakes here in Gateshead which are accumulating quickly.

Would really like a couple of cold clear days to enjoy the snow conditions. For me personally this has been a great cold spell, here in Gateshead we have been right on the treshold of the at times marginal conditions meaning that the cover has more or less stayed intact. By Friday we will have had nearly two weeks of snowcover. I would say this cold spell is approaching or maybe even on par with Jan 2010 certainly in relation to snow.

Been snowing here for ages! We have achieved an excellently deep covering in this cold spell, and today is just topping it up nicely :)

Amazing how much more snow there is here in Low Fell compared to your location. Just shows what local variations in height and distance from the coast can do.

Just fine flakes now and despite the heavy snow and large flakes, not an awful lot actually accumulated and I can see the fresh snow sliding down the cars windscreen.

Still a nice surprise though.

There looks to be over an inch where the bin was standing up until 8am, not bad considering it wasn't lying on clear surfaces until half an hour ago!

Over an inch?

I know it was a moderate to heavy shower but that sounds a bit excessive... you'd never get 25mm of rain from what just went over!

Just measured 18cm in the middle of the garden - not bad! Obviously there's less on pavements but even there its quite deep to walk in.

NickR, 2.5cm of snow would equate to 2.5mm of rain.

You can see the depth quite well here:
