Biggest flakes I have ever seen...some of these are an inch across....and it's beginning to settle, which I thought was impossible....how can snow settle on wet ground ??

confused and amazed at the same time...absolutely incredible stuff here on the S.Coast

Prediction - Kent / Essex 1-2"

West Sussex - 4"

Surrey - 8"

Central London - 4"

NW/N London - 5"

Berkshire - 7"

Haha, East Sussex vanished again? Thats the problem with being split in two.

Think its too wet by the coast.

Whiteout - sticking on side roads - main roads to follow without gritting.

I would so love to take CTW2012 On a Storm Chase in America

This guy would make Mr Timmers predictions of Armageddon on a Slight Risk day look tame! Pmsl

Can you imagine a 2% Tornado Risk Day, EF5 Tornadoes will rake the land!

Unbelievable Jeff!

Btw sticking in Brighton now. Snowfall rate is high enough to accumulate far quicker than Sun. I'll have some of your billions Manumatt.

You'll see a few centimetres at most. I doubt I'll see anything at all. Several inches of widespread snowfall will not happen.

It is a total myth that snow cannot settle on wet ground. It will settle readily with sufficient intensity.

I'd say its settling because its so heavy and pretty chilly, sadly will melt quite quickly if the ppn rate falls unless the temps drop down to freezing or below.

The MetO now have a yellow snow warning out for this area from 6PM tonight right through till tomorrow morning. Nothing here yet though, but it has got very dark. We still have quite a lot of snow cover on the ground so hopefully if we do get any it might stick! This might be winter's last hurrah judging by the mutterings coming out of the MOD forum, so if it does happen make the most of it!

Im just back from the Firehills ( Hastings Country Park ) and although the car thermometer was showing the temp as 2c, the wind was absolutely bitter cold. Most of the snow has gone from there now.

Currently light sleet here in Fairlight. The friends I am house sitting for are due back at Gatwick from Sharm-El-Sheik at 9pm tonight. I think the cold will come as a bit of a shock to the system.
